Anticipation

Anticipation or being enthusiastic, is an emotion involving pleasure (and sometimes anxiety) in considering some expected or longed-for good event, or irritation at having to wait. Robert Plutchik listed anticipation as one of the eight basic emotions in his psychoevolutionary theory. See also hope. A name for pleasured anticipation is excitement.

Anticipation can be shown in many ways; for example, some people seem to smile uncontrollably during this period, while others seem ill or sick. It is not uncommon for the brain to be so focused on an event, that the body is affected in such a way. Stage fright is a type of anticipation, stemming from the actor or actress hoping that they perform well

All I can say is that today is a day of anticipation, what with the Currie Cup Final and Moondancers picnic it is a day filled with prospects for joy or sadness on one hand and definite enjoyment on the other.
"She used to drag her mattress besider her low window and lie awake for a long while, vibrating with excitement, as a machine vibrates from speed. Life rushed in upon her through that window - or so it seemed. In reality, of course, life rushes from within, not from without. There is no work of art so big or so beautiful that is was not once all contained in some youthful body, like this one which lay on the floor in the moonlight, pulsing with ardor and anticipation." Next big one

Well... the Boks sorted the Poms... now we go Orange for the Currie Cup final here in Bloem. against the Golden Lions next Saturday. I hope there is no rain on the day, the semi final against the Blue Bulls was preceded by a cloudburst of note and it drizzled the whole game. After the game the city will be having a party but I have been invited to something better... under the moonlight... and that is why there should be no rain. However improvisation has always been one of my abilities so even rain will not dampen our adventure...

Winners and losers

This is a retrospective post as I only got home at 4 am on Sunday... Sorry England, try again in 4 years... there has to be a winner and a loser in sport. Great game Os, 80 games and 80 minutes in the Green and Gold!
However... when it comes to the heart one wins by losing, one gains by giving and kisses are sweeter than wine. Cupid seems to have had two arrows in his bow this time. Thatisall.

Rock and rolling Rockwood

Brian's last two strips on the subject of You Tube and music videos had me chuckling to myself.

Seems that we have both come to the same conclusion that some of the older stuff is in comparison to today's music is rather lacking in finish... but that is not why I post them. It is for the memories they bring back...
But enough of the past, today had its share of highlights, the Cheetah's won another game and seem to be on the way to the Final in a few weeks time. This is the first year that they have not lost one game so far. The fight seems to be between the other teams who will join them in the final.
After almost a month I decided to fire up Shrek and see if the battery still worked... What a sweet sound a single cylinder makes... the motor fired at once! On further inspection the bike seems to have just three bits of Tupperware that need replacement, the R/H flasher lens, side cover and fairing panel all have cracks or scratches. I will be getting quotes next week when the bike goes in for it's service and warranty repair to the water pump. If the lot is less than my excess I will not even be claiming. Wish my leg was as easy to fix. I can't wait to get back in the saddle and feel the wind and the sound of the engine again. Who needs music while riding?
So to stay with rock and roll and motorbikes here is one of my favourite biker songs by Chris Spedding... the whole song is today's quote!

[via FoxyTunes / Chris Spedding]- Motorbikin' . Yeah, the video sucks! But listen to the way Chris brings feeling to the song, it Rocks! What's the bet he rode a motorbike sometime in his life?
Motor bikin' - motor bikin' - motor bikin' - motor cycling
Moving on the Queens highway looking like a streak of lightening
If you gotta go go gotta go motor bike riding

Listen to me and I'll tell you no lie
Too fast to live too young to die
I bought a new machine today say
It takes your breath away.

Motor bikin' - motor bikin' - motor bikin' - motor cycling
Moving on the Queens highway looking like a streak of lightening.

Oh baby won’t you come with me
I'll take you where you want to be

Well here I am again I'm dressed in black
I got my baby she's a riding up back
A we're doing about ninety five
Whoo it's so good to be alive.

Motor bikin' - motor bikin' - motor bikin' - motor cycling
Moving on the Queens highway looking like a streak of lightening
If you gotta go go gotta go motor bike riding

Motor bikin' - motor bikin' - motor bikin' - motor cycling
Moving on the Queens highway looking like a streak of lightening

20/20

I am watching the 20/20 Cricket and the RWC... be back later... busy channel hopping.
Cricket delayed by rain... Cape Town this time of year can do that... Now Duckworth/Lewis comes into play... Looks like Zimbabwe may just have the cat in the bag and beat the mighty Australia. And they did... by 5 wickets!
Italy and Romania are slugging it out and my money is on the underdog Romania! Alas it was not to be...
Italy 24 Romania 18.
On the subject of 20/20 here is a song from the Beach Boys album of the same name...

[via FoxyTunes / The Beach Boys]- Cotton fields.

20/20 also means perfect vision, since I wear glasses I do not qualify but perfect vision could also mean that one has a sense of purpose and direction in one's life... something that has become clearer to me lately although the final direction could well be influenced by other events... time will tell.

On song for a win...

Stefan van der Walt from Welkom MX Club on his way to finish his 125 Open first heat... he went on to win the class for the day. Just a pity we had such a small turnout entry wise, this is the first time we have had a MX Regional without any 50cc riders...
Our spectator turnout suprised us as we thought what with the Semi Final for the Currie Cup we would be lucky to have any.
I just wish I had more time to take some pics of the Quads though,
Xander Norval put up a blistering pace and finished first, however we need 6 entries per class for a class to score for the regional championship... sadly we will only be seeing 3 classes worthy of regional status this year... Where have all the guys with brass ones gone?

At least I heard the Cheetahs vs Sharks game on the radio while we were packing up after the prize giving... Final score Cheetahs 30 - Sharks 14... shushi this week, biltong and fillet steak next week!

Check the score! and check the bikes...

This is one of the reasons I love going to watch Rugby with my son M... We are hoarse from cheering our favourite team the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs... shame poor Falcons... must say those wings and drumsticks went down well... The scoreboard says it all!
And of course another reason... the Hogs and Chicks! The sound these bikes make when the team runs onto the field is awesome! Makes me want to buy a Harly... well just maybe...
We were however dissapointed at the turnout... I suppose the time of the game as well as the Springbok game starting on TV was a damper... I always find it strange that the stadium is full when the Blue Bull's visit but not when we play lesser teams... shame on you Bloemies Rugby Fans!
In any case... we had a great day at the Cheetah's game... the Springboks is another story...

Dazzle

An amazing little image. Fractal art in minature.
Now to more serious matters... after a dazzling season the Cheetahs lost the final game but not without clawing back magnificently... ah, well next year!
At least I have music to cheer me up. Here is some played today, Paul van Dyk - Tell me why, Armin van Buuren - Burned with desire, Modern Talking - You are not alone...
This song by The Stranglers seems to sum up my feelings of my favourite rugby team losing the final:
Always The Sun - The Stranglers
How many times have you woken up and prayed for the rain?
How many times have you seen the papers apportion the blame?
Who gets to say, who gets the work and gets to play?
I was always told at school, everybody should get the same
How many times have you been told, if you don't ask you don't get?
How many liars have taken your money, your mother said you shouldn'tbet?
Who has the fun, is it always the man with the gun?
Someone must have told him, if you work too hard you can sweat
There's always the sun
There's always the sun
Always, always, always the sun
How many times have the weathermen told you stories that made you laugh?
Y'know it's not unlike the politician and the leaders when they do things by half
Who gets the job, of pushing the knob
That sort of responsibility you draw straws for, if you're mad enough
There's always the sun
There's always the sun
Always, always, always the sun.

Africa... is not for sissies...

Today was awe inspiring, another medal at the Olympics and proof that Africa is not for sissies, we grow 'em tough! Although we won't be ranking top ten I do believe we are puting up a fine performance in Athens.
Just a short one today, maybe only published by Saturday due to time constraints, got to be at the track before 7 am for some serious track building... just hope more rain falls as the track needs all it can get. All this reminds me of Bonnie Tyler and Holding on for a Hero... here is the chourus:
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
So here is to our heroes in Athens and hopefully tomorrow our Rugby heroes in Durban and all the heroes that have come to the party by helping us out tomorrow.
