Getting better

KatieB's daughter B has come down with a tummy virus. It's no fun not being able to keep you food down. I can handle a cold or flu but when I get Gyppo I am meaner than a Honey Badger being deprived of honey so I imagine how she feels. Being a single mom with a child that is ill is no fun either, it kinda eats into your leave time. So I hope this clears up quick for both of them.
On the home front I am also quite amazed how well I feel, today I did the wrap the leg in plastic thing and had a shower! As I am allowed to put slight pressure on the leg I was able to balance quite well while indulging in a long shower... I feel good and clean and fresh. This was after I had vacuumed part of the flat... quite an easy job even with one leg. Tomorrow I do the rest. It is just a pity the cast has to stay on till next Thursday... My Doctor had a death in the family and had to reschedule, my thoughts are with his family.
My children have also had friends experience tragedy this past week and my heart goes out to all the families that have lost children this week. Children are supposed to survive their parents, not the other way around. Here is a song to cheer everyone up...

[via FoxyTunes / D:Ream]- Things can only get better

You can walk my path
You can wear my shoes
Let her talk like me
And be an angel too

But maybe
You ain't never gonna feel this way
You ain't never gonna know me
But I know you...
Teach you now that

Things can only get better
Can only get, can only get
They get on from here
You know, I know that
Things can only get better

I sometimes lose myself in me
I lose track of time
And I can't see the wood from the trees
You set them alight, burning the bridges as you go
I'm too weak to fight you
I got my personal health to deal with
And you say

Walk my path
Wear my shoes
Talk like me
I'll be an angel and

(CHORUS:)
Things can only get better
Can only get better
Now I've found you
(That means me)
(Will you teach me now)
Things can only get better
Can only get better
Now I've found you

And you and you...
You... show me prejudice and greed
You show me how
I must learn to deal with this disease
I look at things now
In a different light than I did before
I found the cause
And I think that you could be my cure
And you say

Walk your path
Wear your shoes
Talk like that
I'll be an angel too

(chorus)

These things make me realise that one should never put of things that matter till tomorrow, tell that person in your life that they are important and be there for them no matter what. Most importantly... give thanks when the sun rises for a new day.

Me? Scared?

Not at all, L has had her learners licence for a long time now but has not had much chance to practice her skills... so today we went shopping...
I was amazed how confidently she approached the job, after a short ride around campus to get used to the car we were off... no thanks to an idiot bus driver that could not make his turn, he had the temerity to honk at us! Where did he get his licence? He is lucky I had no camera or else I would be emailing it to his boss at Big Sky Tours!
The rest of the trip was uneventful but for the next idiot in a BMW X3 that has no idea how a traffic circle works or how solid lines work. We were not going to drive in your precious lane Mr BeMyWife.
I am impressed how good she coped with what was thrown her way, Saturday at 12am is not the quietest time to practice driving, she is going to be a great driver. I am so proud of her.

Drifting along but not stuck...

Took the day off to get some stuff that needed doing done and take M to the airport, the Lady Cheethas are playing in Cape Town this weekend and of course the fitness guru has to tag along! I am so proud of both my kids, every day they amaze me.
The way things in life work also amazes me, M always said he would be part of the Cheetah team one day, one way or another, well he is not on the team as a player but working his way up the ladder as a part of the support and coaching team. Hopefully he and the coach will move up to the under 19 team next year... the Baby Cheetahs. I think he will be part of the top team very soon as he seems to have gotten the ladies pretty fit so far, they have won all their games to date.

I also spoilt myself by having a haircut... actually cut is a misnomer... I had the edges trimmed so to speak, next time I am going Vin Diesel style... as there is so little on top these days. Sometimes you have to pamper yourself.
Then L and I went to the mall... and I found "All over the world" by Francois Hardy... the CD of one of my first LP Records I ever bought. So now I have my own MP3 of "Only you can do it"... listening to the album brought back a lot... and I think I know who to blame for making me a hopeless romantic...
Last mission of the day was to take M to the airport... a lot of the team were already there... he looked quite handsome in his Cheetah tracksuit as he herded the girls to the terminal...
Got hold of the dazzle vests I wanted for the next off road on the way back from the airport, must just get the logos and printing done next week.
Then I headed home, went for a shopping spin on Shrek and spent the rest of the evening doing what I hate most... Dishes!
I also managed to type some of the lyrics from the CD... it was easy as the words were already in my memory!

Another place - Hardy, More
Here in another place at another time I'm in love with you still.

Here while another face gazes into mine I remember the thrill.
If he should take your place would it be so wrong when I failed to be true.
I long for your embrace but it's been so long here alone without you.
Nights with no one there to meet, wandering down the emty street.
That's why, that's why, here am I.
Just about to fall for for him, all at once your face is here and it is all I see.

Here in this other place on another shore it's so lonely to wait.
Come to another place, love me as before, before it's too late,
Before it's too late.

Only you can do it - Blackwell
You make me feel like I've never been kissed before

Only you can do it
You make me feel like I want to be kissed forever more
Only you can do it

I don't know why I feel this way
I only know I like the way you hold me in your arms
Only you can do it

Only you can do it
Only you can do it
Only you can do what you're doing to me

I walk along town with my head held up so high
Only you can do it
My feet are on the ground but I feel like I'm touching the sky
Only you can do it

I don't know why I feel this way
I only know I like the way you hold me in your arms
Only you can do it

Only you can do it
Only you can do it
Only you can do what you're doing to me

I don't know why I feel this way
I only know I like the way you hold me in your arms
Only you can do it

Only you can do it
Only you can do it
Only you can do what you're doing to me

It's my heart - Hardy, Meridith
I know you don't love me and you often say you'd would be better of without me in your way.
Although you don't love me and it may be true, it's my life and you can't stop me loving you.
It's my life, I must live it, 'cause I'm living my life for you, just you.
It's my heart, I can give it, and I'm giving my heart to you, just you.

Someday you may need me and perhaps you'll see that life can be very lonely when youre free.
You may find you've lost me, you'll be on your own, you may find out when I'm gone
It's your life you must live it, just as I once lived mine for you, just you.
It's your heart, you may give it, when I have nothing left for you.

So as I drift off to sleep I will probably have a few songs spinning around in my head... taking me down memory lane... another good day hunting.
"Men are afraid to rock the boat in which they hope to drift safely through life's currents, when, actually, the boat is stuck on a sandbar. They would be better off to rock the boat and try to shake it loose." Thomas Szasz

Checklist

Pilots and rally drivers use them, so do us bikers;
Here are all the things I am lugging along...The stuff on the table and the jacket and top on the chair...
Here it is all packed and around 12 Kilos, 8 shy of the 20 kilo max Mango allows. Phew! All according to the Checklists, except a few things that need washing or collecting from the chemist tomorrow. I have to get antihistamine tablets... me and bees and bikes... we have a history of having contact in the weirdest places, anatomically speaking.
However my most important thing on my checklist is to tell the kids that I love them and thanks for letting their crazy dad do insane things.
Thanks L, but I think I will leave your IPod for now... I would love some music on the road but I first have to relearn riding a bike and concentrating... Avril Lavinge and Girlfriend will have to wait till I get back, as well as the Now Cd's for that matter.

Thanks Dad

Today was fathers day so I took my Dad and the rest of us for a slap up lunch at the Bush Bub at Bains Lodge... We both gazed in wonder as we watched the kids fooling around with their latest electronic gizmos... I must be getting older and wiser.
Luv Ya Dad! even though you do not use a computer and will not read this.
Going on for 80 and he can still weld a mean bead!

Where I want to chill a while...

watch some whales and run some passes before heading back to the daily grind a month from now.
If all works out I will be flying Mango and returning 2 wheeled via Route 62, then via the Eastern Cape to KZN and back via Maloti route or I may even do a round route via some northern provinces... time will tell. I may even blog if I find a net connection.

I have 5 routes planned so far...
Brown, 1000k around the Cape.
Green, Route 62.
Blue, to my Boet via Maloti route then to Mapumalanga via Red.
Red, to my Boet via Wild Coast then Klerksdorp and back home via Maloti route.
Yellow, back home via Witsand and Kimberley.

I still have to plot out the exact roads and work out exact distances... but it any one should be fun.
So to the words of the immortal hit from Steppenwolf...
BORN TO BE WILD
From the 1968 release "Steppenwolf"
Words and music by Mars Bonfire

Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild

Mango, Mango, the kids arrived safe!

Even with all the negative reports and my own disgust that Mango still has not got their kiosk up and running at Bloemfontein airport the kids arrived in Cape Town. Will get the full report when they get back on the 5th January... so far so good Mango!
Still do not know why we had to rush around getting faxes done an hour before they were supposed to check in though, I ascribe it to teething troubles and staff that are not yet up to par. You gets what you pay for I suppose.
I am still mad that I forgot my camera with all the rushing about! A pic of them leaving on a jetplane would have been nice... will try on the rebound... and report back.

What's your favorite thing about Rockbrook...

my daughter being a Councellor, thats her on the right with the huge grin! From all reports she had a very busy time but enjoyed it immensly...
Talking of favourite things... She should be winging her way back to Sunny South Africa on 911... just in time for our next cold front! Some spring we are having... I think today's quote sums her time in the States up perfectley.

Today... was a good day.

Today was a good day... my daughter L sent me an e-mail for my birthday, my son M gave me a cool Pepper Grinder with LED light... I must think of an excuse to use it soon.
According to Wikipedia a lot happened today in history as well, with this being the coolest as it happened Today... Today was Trinity Sunday! I may not be a Bible thumper but I do know that without God I am nothing and wihout Jesus I am not saved and without the Holy Spirit I cannot survive...
Otherwise it was just a relaxing day... ended up at my Dad's place for a fine supper of soup and recalling memories... A good day.

A View from the Heart of a Wooded Mountain

Transylvania County Court House, probaly one of the prettiest I have seen. Situated in Brevard, the town where she is Camp Councellor, they have a Blog so I can see how things are going over there in the Blue Ridge Mountains, home of forestry in the USA. It is a town with a rich history and magnificent scenery.

"Nestled in the Southern Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina, lies beautiful Transylvania County. Literally meaning "across the woods", there is no more appropriate name for this area as the visitor is instantly awed by the intense foliage that dominates the County."

I hope she enjoys the time in this wonderful part of America. We await her return in September to hear of her amazing adventure, hopefully she will start sending some photos she promised to take with her digital over there.

I think the following quote sums up what I wish for her as she follows one of her dreams...

"This life is yours. Take the power to choose what you want to do and do it well. Take the power to love what you want in life and love it honestly. Take the power to walk in the forest and be a part of nature. Take the power to control your own life. No one else can do it for you. Take the power to make your life happy." Susan Polis Schutz

Each time, this time it's good...

L has probably taken off from Joeys International by now... winging her way to explore the US of A and be a camp councellor at Rockbrook Camp for Girls in North Carolina, I believe she will enjoy it as she always makes the best of things and challenges make her shine. This time the goodbye was not as painfull as the last time... Still it does hurt a little bit and I am reminded of this song by Nick Kamen. All I do know is that a young girl left my home and most probably a very mature young lady will be back in September... They grow up so fast...

Each Time You Break My Heart - by Nick Kamen
Each time you break my heart
Each time you break my heart
I know how it feels to be the talk of the town
I'm not gonna let you go and run around
I need to know that you'll be true to me
'Cause that's the way it's got to be
Why can't you give your promise to me
Is love so blind that you cannot see
I'm trying hard not to walk out the door
Know that I, oh, know that I can't take no more

Chorus:
Each time you break my heart
I try to put my pride aside
Each time you break my heart
A little voice inside me cries
No matter what you do or say
I'm gonna love you, I'm gonna love you anyway
And if you're so sure that I'm not your kind
How come you can't just walk away
In the beginning we were nothing but glad
Those were the best days that we ever had
There's no compassion, all your warmth is gone
Tell me how, oh, how can I keep holding on

(chorus)Intermediate:

I see the look in your eyes
I know you're hurting inside
Let me try
To make you love me again
I'll say that I knew you when
You were mine
You were mine
Each time, oh, yeah

In the beginning we were nothing but glad
Those were the best days that we ever had
There's no compassion, all your warmth is gone
Tell me how, oh, how can I keep holding on

(intermediate)(chorus)

Each time you break my heart again
Well I can say I knew you when
[each time]
You were mine
Break my heart
Don't break my heart
(repeat and fade)

Update: E-mail arrived... landed safely... now she has to do a bus trip get on another plane and then by train... or is it other way round? Holding thumbs!

BWO short for Bodies Without Organs... wierd name for a Russian band that I quite like, they almost get a Phil Spector sound with Sixteen Tons of Hardware... Wonder how Phil's trail for murder will turn out. My favourite track is the DJ Tiesto mix of Delerium's Silence with Sarah McLachlan doing the vocals. Delerium is of course also known as Conjure One/Intermix/ Synaethesia/Noise Unit/Pro-tech/Equinox/Front Line Assembly or Bill Leeb and Rhys Fuller. Venice Beat's cover of the 1969 hit In the Year 2525 is also quite impressive as dance beats go however I still prefer the real thing... I did mention it in my FutureRama posting a while ago... In any case here are the lyrics to the title track of my compilation for this week.
Sixteen tons of hardware - BWO
Sixteen tons of hardware
Sixteen tons of hardware

Every night has got a crowd to cheer
A show to get things right
Every band has got a stage to fear
A kick when the crowd is in sight

Turn on feedback looper super trouper
Flashes clashing a screen
Tune in consecrating masquerading
Ghosts in our sonic machine

We load sixteen tons of hardware
Blazing steel and galvanized
We crash fifteen supersonic tanks
Through the gates of paradise

We load sixteen tons of hardware
Blazing steel and galvanized
We crash fifteen supersonic tanks
Through the gates of paradise

Digging deep inside a wall of sound
The cheering of the crowd
Take me high I'm feeling heavenbound
The sound when I shout it out loud

Turn on feedback looper super trouper
Flashes clashing a screen
Tune in consecrating masquerading
Ghosts in our sonic machine

We load sixteen tons of hardware
Blazing steel and galvanized
We crash fifteen supersonic tanks
Through the gates of paradise

We load sixteen tons of hardware
Blazing steel and galvanized
We crash fifteen supersonic tanks
Through the gates of paradise

BTW... It's great to have another body around the pad, L is enjoying her stay here and of course Myoo thinks it is heaven to have a choice of legs and hands to pounce on... more later.

National Treasure

What a great movie! It may not get an Oscar but is a great adventure story for most teen's and older as well, the action just keeps on and the bad guys get theirs and the Hero gets the Girl... The kids and I had a great time! The comment in the foyer as we left the cinema had me smiling though:
"Man that writer must know everyting about the Masons, he must be one!" Duh, he used the WWW dude! Nothing new was revealed and I liked the way some "conspiracy theories" were woven into the storyline.
Nothing else to say as I am plumb tuckered out after a day with the kids...

Ghosts of unkissed kisses

Spent the better part (love that term, because it was a good day!) of the day with Yoshikuni Ayumi (nom de blog for my daughter), we went to see Dodge Ball wich had us both in hysterics within minutes. Hey! we both love slapstick! Then it was home to make some grub and listen to music as well as play with Myoo... who is pooped from playing, as I type. The recipe will be on tomorrows blog and was deemed exccelent by my daughter. She made a few playlists of songs she likes for the times she comes around to my flat. I also made a few of wich I this one I call "Ghosts of Unkissed Kisses", it has a wide range of genres and tempo's but is just great to listen to, will be putting at least one a month together as go...
1. Trembling Blue Stars - The Ghost Of An Unkissed Kiss (4:33)
2. Hooverphonic - Mad about you (3:44)
3. Sinead O'Connor - Nothing compares to you (5:07)
4. Seether ft Amy Lee - Broken (4:19)
5. Knocking on heavens door - Avril Livigne (2:53)
6. Dido - Mary's in India (3:41)
7. The Awakening - Amethyst (3:22)
8. The Corrs - Baby be brave (3:58)
9. Roxette - Come back (before you leave) (4:40)
10. Nena feat. Kim Wild - Anyplace, anywhere, anytime (4:03)
11. DJ Sammy & Carisma - Golden Child (3:41)
12. Don Henley - Boys of summer (4:50)
13. Gene Pitney - Somethings Gotten Hold Of My Heart (1:28)
14. Simon Walsh - Eat The Ashes (3:16)
15. The Awakening - The sounds of silence (4:43)
16. Paul van Dyk - Wir sind wir (original version) (3:44)
17. Nazareth - Love Hurts (3:52)
18. Hooverphonic - Out of sight (3:56)
19. Toni Childs - Stop your fussin (4:41)
20. Dido - Sand in my shoes (4:59)
21. Agnelli & Nelson - Angels (3:23)
22. Gary Puckett and the Union Gap - Young Girl (3:16)
23. Rare Blend - Boom Boom Boom (3:22)
24. Blank and Jones - Perfect silence (6:14)
25. The Awakening - Dreams in fire (4:47)
26. Bruce Springsteen - I'm On Fire (2:41)
27. Roxette - She does'nt live here anymore (4:03)
28. Michelle Marie - Boys Club (3:22)
29. Michael Bolton - Said I Loved You...But I Lied (5:01)
30. Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli - Con te partiro - Time to say goodbye (4:06)

The reason for the title? Just because of the first song of course! Looking for a suitable quote I came across some by Matt Groening, being of a similar age he seems to have my sense of humour, then I discover he is the Father of the Simpsons... now it all somehow makes sense! So here goes;
"Love is a perky elf dancing a merry little jig, and then suddenly he turns on you with a miniature machine gun."
"Love is a snowmobile racing across the tundra and then suddenly it flips over, pinning you underneath. At night, the ice weasels come." - "Life in Hell".
Getting back to kisses, here are todays lyrics... from Trembling Blue Stars, A Single Kiss:
She's gone and no longer
Feels she'd die without me
The other half of her
She's stopped feeling me to be
She said that she wants me
To consider us over
And tonight it's as though she
She was a dream only

As though this world is no world where
I'd ever find her
As though she isn't out there
As though there never was a her
As though there never was a her

It's like I never really knew her love
A single kiss, felt her touch
It could be that I never have
Been anything other than
Than what I am
Other than without her

Tonight it's as though she
Was just some wonderful dream
To think she really happened to me
To think she really
Happened to me

Here is the blogquote for today;
"Warning signs that lover is bored:

1. Passionless kisses
2. Frequent sighing
3. Moved, left no forwarding address."
Matt Groening 1954

Wir Sind Wir and Garfield is Ubercat

We are what we are, not always by choice but certainly by the way we live. Had great fun with the kids today, even got around to Garfield at the movies... man! I love that cat. I loved the last song where he dances on the porch for the last time to the James Brown song I feel good, all in all a very good family movie well worth watching. As I was ripping some of my Paul van Dyk's cd's I took a second listen of Wir sind Wir and then found this on the web when looking for the lyrics as this song intrigued me by the tone and inflection in the way it is sung:
Wir Sind Wir - Paul van Dyk - (Lyrics Peter Heppner)
Tag um Tag, Jahr um Jahr,
Wenn ich durch diese Straßen geh',
Seh ich wie die Ruinen dieser Stadt
Wieder zu Häusern auferstehen.

Doch bleiben viele Fenster leer,

English Translation:

Day by day, year by year.
When I'm walking along this street,
I'm seeing the ruins growing up to houses.

Many windows still stay empty,
there was no return for many people.
About the things what just happened,
no one speaks about it anymore.

But I'm still asking who we are.

We're what we are. we're standing here.
Divided, defeated and else.
We are still alive !

We're what we are. we're standing here.
It can't be over yet,no time for sadness.
We're what we are. we're standing here.
We're what we are.

We thought 'resurrection from the ruins'.
Dreams had to come true.
40 years of united power.
We made ashes into gold.

Now everything changed.
Things from the past are worthless today.
Now we can get everything,
but didn't we want more than that ?

And I'm asking where we are.

We're what we are. we're standing here.
Reunited in one country.
Rich and burned out.

We're what we are. we're standing here.
we're not going down,
no time to be angry.
We're what we are. we're standing here.
We're what we are.

We're what we are.
Divided, defeated and else.
Finally, we still exist !

We're what we are.
We will get over it.
Because life has to go on.

We're what we are.
This is just a bad phase.
We will never give up !

BACKGROUND: This song is about the german history after world war 2. Currently Germany has some economic problems and the population is dissatisfied, so Paul van Dyk and Peter Heppner made this kinda motivating track. Dyk and Heppner also wanted to remember to the soccer worldcup in Bern, Switzerland in 1954. Germany won it, so it's called "The miracle of Bern".

Exactly what I got out of listening to the song myself...
Well so much for the long weekend, it's back to the saltmine in the morrow...

The whole ten yards and some

Went to see The whole ten yards today, great fun having the kids along and we enjoyed the film immensly, comedy drama at it's best, Bruce Willis was brilliant in the part of the mass murderer Jimmy "The Tulip" Tudeski. Remarkably little foul language used and when used as in the part where the mobster (hungerian accent) saying "FU" was hillariously funny.
Sitting around at home later I discovered that a favourite song of mine in a previous posting (
friday ) was in an Austen Powers movie... Funny I have not been attracted to that particular type of humor, must be the silly faces used... Got a funny look from my daughter when I said I had not seen any... they love them. Suppose I will have to make a point and rent em to get up to sped with Mr Powers and his antics. .

Very amusing...

Music is a salve to the wounded heart, dunno who said that but it makes sense, lately I have not been in the mood for any mushy music but last night after posting and getting ready for bed I get a call... Well so much for my mood... We had a blast, some of the folks at the MX club had decided on an "afterparty" spent the best part of 3 hours there until I was tottering around from exaustion... two late nights had merged into a blur. Hopefully can get to bed early tonight. The music was mostly Thechno/Rave/Rock and it got my spirits up... had great fun dancing. Now all I need is a kindred spirit...
