You bet that Tommy sees!
This war will also not be fought by those Rough Men in uniform but needs warriors with callused knees... for that will bring the truest victory.
Here is the poem by Kipling;
Tommy
I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o' beer
The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play.
I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,
The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.
Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.
We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind",
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind,
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind
You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!
Holy Moses who?
I must say there is quite a paucity of quotes etc. about this "illustrious" comrade on the internet, so much for being "famous.

WOW I have hit the Googlejackpot
Speaking of mayhem, what a week this has been, murder at the CWC, Maputo blowing up and the rest of the world pretty well going to pot at a rate of knots mon...
I think I will sit back and compile a list of songs to soothe the soul... while busy I listened to Nelly Furtado's new CD and this Porra Chick can sing dude! She always had a good voice but she has now matured from her earlier songs... so I decided to call the compilation "All Good Things" based on one of the songs on the CD, plus here are the lyrics to the title track:
All Good Things (come to an end)
Honestly what will become of me
don't like reality
It's way too clear to me
But really life is daily
We are what we don't see
Missed everything daydreaming
[Chorus]
Flames to dust
Lovers to friends
Why do all good things come to an end
Flames to dust
Lovers to friends
Why do all good things come to an end
come to an end come to an
Why do all good things come to end?
come to an end come to an
Why do all good things come to an end?
Traveling I only stop at exits
Wondering if I'll stay
Young and restless
Living this way I stress less
I want to pull away when the dream dies
The pain sets in and I don't cry
I only feel gravity and I wonder why
Flames to dust
Lovers to friends
Why do all good things come to an end
Flames to dust
Lovers to friends
Why do all good things come to an end

come to an end come to an
Why do all good things come to end?
come to an end come to an
Why do all good things come to an end?
Well the dogs were whistling a new tune
Barking at the new moon
Hoping it would come soon so that they could
Dogs were whistling a new tune
Barking at the new moon
Hoping it would come soon so that they could
Die die die die die
Flames to dust
Lovers to friends
Why do all good things come to an end
Flames to dust
Lovers to friends
Why do all good things come to an end
come to an end come to an
Why do all good things come to end?
come to an end come to an
Why do all good things come to an end?
Well the dogs were barking at a new moon
Whistling a new tune
Hoping it would come soon
And the sun was wondering if it should stay away for a day til the feeling went away
And the sky was falling on the clouds were dropping and
the rain forgot how to bring salvation
the dogs were barking at the new moon
Whistling a new tune
Hoping it would come soon so that they could die.
And once again the The Screaming Tangerines present the latest megaclicious collection All Good Things:
A collection of some of those songs that remind me mostly of good (and some bad) things...

Whacky Wednesday - Make me an Island
"The villa owner refuses to move, so the real-estate developer has had to dig out all around it to force him to,"
MAKE ME AN ISLAND - A. Hammond & M. Hazlewood
Different eyes, different size, different girls every day.
Different names, different games took my breath clean away.
But I'm changed, rearranged, I'm enlightened and how
you have caught me, you have taught me and I'm different now.
Take me and break me and close all your windows and doors.
Shut me off, cut me off, make me an island, I'm yours.
Take me away from the world, take me away from the girls.
Take me and break me and make me an island, I'm yours.
Running round, shifting ground, that's the life I have seen.
But I'm tired, uninspired and I've wiped my slate clean.
You are mine, I am yours if the Lord will allow.
You have caught me, you have taught me and I'm different now.
Take me and break me and close all your windows and doors.
Shut me off, cut me off, make me an island, I'm yours.
Take me away from the world, take me away from the girls.
Take me and break me and make me an island, I'm yours.
Take me and break me and close all your windows and doors.
Shut me off, cut me off, make me an island, I'm yours.
Take me away from the world, take me away from the girls.
Take me and break me and make me an island, I'm yours.
Take me and break me and make me an island, I'm yours.
Albert Hammond, who I discoverd was born in England and not in the USA by the way, is probably one of the most prolific songwriters of the pop/rock era with Mike hazelwood. Having written hits for many stars and groups like the Hollies... "Gimme dat ding" sung by the Pipkins was also one of theirs! Amazing...
"And there was a beautiful view
But nobody could see.
Cause everybody on the island
Was saying: Look at me! Look at me!"

How to kiss your ass goodbye...
An old man, a boy and a donkey were going to town. The boy rode on the donkey and the old man walked. As they went along they passed some people who remarked it was a shame the old man was walking and the boy was riding. The man and boy thought maybe the critics were right, so they changed positions.
Later, they passed some people that remarked, "What a shame, he makes that little boy walk."
They then decided they both would walk! Soon they passed some more people who thought they were stupid to walk when they had a decent donkey to ride. So, they both rode the donkey.
Now they passed some people that shamed them by saying how awful to put such a load on a poor donkey.
The boy and man said they were probably right, so they decide to carry the donkey. As they crossed the bridge, they lost their grip on the animal and it fell into the river and drowned.
The moral of the story?
If you try to please everyone, you might as well kiss your ass good-bye!
This is sooooo true... thank heavens I have grown wiser and thus less stressed about trying to meet every one's expectations. Ich bin, wer ich bin.
On the subject of german and beer in particular, I see that those esteemed brewers from Holland have gotten their Amstel back from those rotten Seffriken Yankees SABMiller, it will henceforth be brewed/imported under the watchfull eye of the Heineken group who own Windhoek as well. Last I heard Amstel would be brewed in Windhoek?
Now what have all these dutch beer company's got in common with german? Why the Reinheitsgebot dear fellow... and Amstel and Windhoek use this ancient code brew the best beer to cool one's palate. Sehr gut ja! I bet SABMiller are crying in their Castle now... I hear the Amstel income was a cool 300 million $ (yes $ not R) a year! That is a lot of ale to kiss goodbye!

'How will you die?' at QuizGalaxy.com |
Speaking of luck, I have been invited to guest blog at Keeskennis the blogger from Zambia, Kees you give me a great honour bud, I will now spend the rest of my weekend pondering what to contribute! This is the Vic Fall's that form part of the border between Zambia and Mad Bob's Paradise aka Zimbabwe. I hope to see the falls one day before my aforementioned demise! On the subject of demise and all that here is a brilliant song from Rammstein and the title song for this weeks compilation from the Screaming Tangerines...
Stirb nicht vor mir - Don't die before me
Die Nacht öffnet ihren Schoß
Das Kind heißt Einsamkeit
Es ist kalt und regungslos
Ich weine leise in die Zeit
Ich weiß nicht wie du heißt
Doch ich weiß dass es dich gibt
Ich weiß dass irgendwann
irgendwer mich liebt
He comes to me every night
No words are left to say
With his hands around my neck
I close my eyes and pass away
I don't know who he is
In my dreams he does exist
His passion is a kiss
And I can not resist
Ich warte hier
Don't die before I do
Ich warte hier
Stirb nicht vor mir
I don't know who you are
I know that you exist
Stirb nicht
Sometimes love seems so far
Ich warte hier
Your love I can't dismiss
Ich warte hier
Alle Häuser sind verschneit
Und in den Fenstern Kerzenlicht
Dort liegen sie zu zweit
Und ich
Ich warte nur auf dich
Ich warte hier
Don't die before I do
Ich warte hier
Stirb nicht vor mir
I don't know who you are
I know that you exist
Stirb nicht
Sometimes love seems so far
Ich warte hier
Your love I can't dismiss
Stirb nicht vor mir

Popular signs
From what I heard last time I was in Richards Bay in KZN these hippo signs "disappear" with regularity... and no I do not have one in my bar! If you look closely you will notice fresh earth around the base of the pole, the one I am posing next to was brand new! This picture was taken when the kids were still in primary school... now L has started her first year at varsity and M is now doing his masters... time sure flies!
