For a while now I have wondered where the Afrikaans saying of "Husse met lang ore" may have originated... well our favorite heavy metal history teaching band Sabaton prodded me to do some research on the subject when listening to the song

The winged hussars became legend over the centuries and somehow the early Afrikaners heard of the epic battle in 12 September 1683 when Vienna was liberated by the Winged Hussars. The wings became ears and the rest is husse met lang ore.
