Tsunami

The recent Tsunami Disaster has highlighted a few things lacking in the Indian Ocean basin namely;
1. Warning systems that should have been in place, this seems to be the case for the Atlantic as well.
2. There exists a clear and present threat from this phenomena in all coastal areas worldwide.
3. Collective memory of similar events in prehistory has however not deterred us humans from utilising the littoral landscape for our activities.
4. However when one looks at some of the footage some people seem to be mesmerised by the White Dragon bearing down on them, were these people somehow captivated by the wall of water, no one knows...
Whatever the case, we hope mankind has learned a lesson and will spend the time and money to put systems in place that would hopefully save more lives in furore. The fact remains that Tsunamis are a danger that can and will strike again...

Wave of change

The Japanese for Harbour Wave - Tsu Nami
Mesmirised by the images on Sky News I realise that the world will never be the same again after the Tsunami... The count keeps on escalating and no end is in sight, my heart goes out to all that have lost loved ones and livelihoods.
I am discussing the science on my other blog FEXII in more detail but here are some definitions and images.
More on Tsunami's at Wikapedia
What does "tsunami" mean?
Today's quote sums up the past two days events and the effect on our souls... Live Life like there is no tomorrow and tell your loved ones they are special.
The only lyrics that seem to be apt are from Hooverphonic, the song called Waves :
These gigantic waves just take me
To an unknown destination
Under the moonlight
Feel free to join me on my trip
The tide will take us far
Beyond midnight
Stars will guide us through this
Exotic white
Stars won't be able to fool the knowledge
Of the magic dice
This sea breeze is refreshing
While the dolphins sing about
These psychedelic moods
These waves keep you going
'Till you finally forget
Your original roots
Stars will guide us through this
Exotic white
Stars won't be able to fool the knowledge
Of the magic dice
Wave after wave
"Like as the waves make towards the pebbled shore, So do our minutes hasten to their end." William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616)

A pinch of bottom... errrr salt?

Seems like the original Calendar Girls started a trend, every year some group makes a calendar to raise funds by using plain ordinary folks or as some critics say hornery folks... All I can say is Vrystaaat! It brings a smile to my face and good luck to them, we tend to make this world far too serious.
My song collection is rather devoid of calendar songs, Neil Sedaka had a hit with Calendar Girl and the lyrics of the day come from Tatanja Simic who is a real calendar girl as well as singer. Placebo has a Centrefolds and the J Geils Band had a hit with Centrefold, Billy Joel married a calendar girl named Christine Brinkley (who is 50 by the way!) and the song Uptown Girl was all about her. I am sure these are but a page in the book of calendar/centrefold girl songs out there.
Calendar Girl - Tatjana Simic
I am a calendar girl
I am a
I am a

I am a calendar girl
I am a
I am a
I am a calendar girl

Can't you see
I am a calendar girl
It's only you and me
I am a calendar girl
And if you are blue
I'll be there for you
I'll be there for you

Winter, spring, summer and autumn stars
January, February, beautiful March
When you're down and you don't know why
I'm April, May, June and July

I am a calendar girl
Can't you see
I am a calendar girl
It's only you and me
I am a calendar girl
And if you are blue
I'll be there for you
I'll be there for you

I am a calender girl
I am a
I am a

I am a calendar girl
I am a
I am a

I am a calendar girl
Can't you see
I am a calendar girl
It's only you and me
I am a calendar girl
And if you are blue
I'll be there for you

And when you come to December
I'm sure that you will remember
My face, my smile and my body too
Listen boy, I will always be there for you

I am a calendar girl
Can't you see
I am a calendar girl
It's only you and me
I am a calendar girl
And if you are blue
I'll be there for you

I am a calender girl
I am a calender girl
And I am there for you
As this is a calendar subject I find that I am becoming quite a technogeek, without my cellphone I am lost, it has the whole year mapped out hour by minute... I was finding it hard to remember to lug my diary to meetings and find it very handy to jot things down on my cellphone's organiser, I just hope I don't run out of memory! Or worse still lose the darn thing!
The quote of the day is in the same toungue in cheek (there is a pun in here somewhere) vein as the rest of today's blog but also in tribute to a very entertaining comedian. Caddyshack was the movie where I saw him for the first time.
"My wife's jealousy is getting ridiculous. The other day she looked at my calendar and wanted to know who May was." Rodney Dangerfield (1921 - 2004)

Oil for the lamp...

I bought myself a neat utensil Sunday, a oil spray bottle for cooking, here is my first recipe using this nifty tool:
Haddock and Veg bake
This is what I had at hand ingredient wise,
4 baby gem squash
8 baby pear shaped marrows, approx 50mm long
Some left over cherry tomatoes and 2 bigger ones
2 medium sized sweet potatoes
punnet of button mushrooms
1 large onion
1 pack frozen haddock fillets approx 500g
Veggie Seasoning
and my new oil spray filled with Olive Oil.
Method
First peel the sweet potatoes and cube, rinse and put into a microwave/glass dish and Nuke for 4 minutes at full blast.
Put your Oven on HIGH in the meantime.
Then trim the ends of the squash and marrows, rinse and do the same as the sweet potatoes but only for 2 minutes.
Now it is time to get out the baking dish big enough for all the ingredients, spray with oil, dump the nuked veggies in and spray with oil and sprinkle with Veggie Seasoning.
Slide the dish into the oven while you do the next step.
Trim the tail bit off your fillets of fish and cut in half, wash the mushrooms and tomatoes, dice/slice the larger ones and do the same to the onion.
Now you can whip your dish out of the oven and add the fish, arrange at will and spray a tad more oil, pop back into the oven for another 10 minutes.
Finally add the tomatoes onion and mushrooms, sprinkle with Veggie Seasoning and spray lightly with oil.
Pop the lot back in the oven for 15 minutes, use a large spoon to mix the lot a bit and return to the oven for another 10 minutes with the Grill on, keep an eye on things from now on, as soon as things get brown do the mix thing and toast the rest... as soon as things go brown again shut the heat off and prepare to feast.
This recipe can be adapted regarding protein and vegetables, use whatever you have, the secret is in the light film of oil and the Veggie Seasoning. I reckon I could have served at least 4 people.
As we are talking of oil I thought this would be a good song for the day.
Oil for the lamps of China - Listening Pool.
So where's the place you call home?
Somewhere to call your own
You need some time to be alone
Somewhere to light up your life
And maybe you'll hold on tight
But now I hope it turns out right
You'd better stop sitting back
And open up your eyes
When are you gonna stop and realise
This is your prize
And now you're lying down
In an old forgotten town
Keep on hoping,
Keeping hope alive

Oil for the lamps of China
You've gotta believe in your pride
Shining from far and wide
Don't you think it's justified?
Somewhere to take by surprise
Under the moonlit skies
Now I hope it turns out right
But you'd better stop looking back
And open up your mind
Who are you gonna try and hope to find
One of your kind?
So here's the black and white
When you're running out of time
Keep on hoping, keeping hope alive
Oil for the lamps of China.
How I got to lamps I don't know but food is the fuel of the body which helps the mind be enlightened so lamps and light are relevant I suppose.
"Genius without religion is only a lamp on the outer gate of a palace; it may serve to cast a gleam on those that are without while the inhabitant sits in darkness." Hannah More

Ok I know the titles seem dark and depressing but I can assure you that the music is inpired, Nightwish from Finland is especially good, their lead singer has an amazing voice and fits in so beautifully with the music, I call it Classic Goth Rock, actually I really think it is a style of it's own. Today's lyrics are from Shakespear's Sister, the song
Stay
If this world is wearing thin
and you're thinking of escape
I'll go anywhere with you
just wrap me up in chains
but if you try to go out alone
don't think i'll understand

stay with me
stay with me

In the silence of your room
in the darkness of your dreams
you must only think of me
there can be no in-betweens
when your pride is on the floor
I'll make you beg for more

stay with me
stay with me

You'd better hope and pray
that you make it safe
back to your own world
you'd better hope and pray
that you wake one day
in your own world
'cuz when you sleep at night
they don't hear your cries
in your own world
only time will tell
if you can break the spell
back in your own world

stay with me
stay with me
(repeats til end)

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us." Marianne Williamson, Return to Love, 1992

Magnifique, un autre prodige de monde. Anyone for a Bungee?

France shows off tallest bridge and it is a new World Wonder at 343m the tallest in the world, I wonder if they will fit a Bungee platform? At the hight of the Millau bridge roadway of 270m it would be higer than the Bloukrans bridge (on the Garden Route, South Africa) jump wich at 216m is the worlds highest bungee jump at present. All I can say is Bungeeeeeeeeee, Vive La France!
As it is I am putting this on my list of structures to see before I die.
All this talk of bridges makes me think of songs related to them; Burning Bridges - Mike Curb Congregation as well as similar titled ones by Status Quo and Pink Floyd, Bridge Over Troubled Waters - Simon and Garfunkel, Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chilli Peppers and View From the Bridge - Kim Wilde to name but a few. Lyrics are from Mike Curb's composition:
Burning Bridges - Mike Curb - from the movie Kelly's Heroes - 1971
Friends all tried to warn me
But I held my head up high
All the time they warned me
But I only passed them by
They all tried to tell me
But I guess I didn't care
I turned my back and
Left them standing there

All the burning bridges that have fallen after me
All the lonely feelings and the burning memories
Everyone I left behind each time I closed the door
Burning bridges lost forevermore

Joey tried to help me find a job
A while ago
When I finally got it I didn't want to go
The party Mary gave for me
When I just turned and walked away
Now there's nothing left for me to say

All the burning bridges that have fallen after me
All the lonely feelings and the burning memories
Everyone I left behind each time I closed the door
Burning bridges lost forevermore

Years have passed and I keep thinking
What a fool I've been
I look back into the past and
Think of way back then
I know that I lost everything
I thought I that could win
I guess I should have listened to my friends

All the burning bridges that have fallen after me
All the lonely feelings and the burning memories
Everyone I left behind each time I closed the door
Burning bridges lost forevermore

Burning bridges lost forevermore
Since I first heard this song the words have always reminded me how important friends are, I am glad that I have always kept my bridges unburnt, however sometimes they get burnt by others...
"When you build bridges you can keep crossing them." Rick Pitino, Lead to Success

What's up?

Wierd things are happening, there is this funny basket and my fav. blankie is now in there? The man is deaf as well, I am starving but he just pats me om my head and says "tomorrow babe"!?

people with your attitude, but no doubt your church

with you. The positive side certainly outweighs the
negative,
after all, you do chores, are smart, are cute, do
charity work.
Least you know what a perfect saint you are. You
just make the rest

However - congratulations on being the most pure,

National Treasure

What a great movie! It may not get an Oscar but is a great adventure story for most teen's and older as well, the action just keeps on and the bad guys get theirs and the Hero gets the Girl... The kids and I had a great time! The comment in the foyer as we left the cinema had me smiling though:
"Man that writer must know everyting about the Masons, he must be one!" Duh, he used the WWW dude! Nothing new was revealed and I liked the way some "conspiracy theories" were woven into the storyline.
Nothing else to say as I am plumb tuckered out after a day with the kids...

Mature fans enjoy a new musical youth

Mature fans enjoy a new musical youth Ok Ok...Guilty as charged! I am also one of the gang as mentioned in the article, I just bought DJ Tiesto's Just Be CD this week and it rocks. But hey! I am 18 till I die! A Tear In The Open must be my favourite track on this album at present, the gaelic lyrics are from Ailein Duinn, or Dark Alan, a haunting melody mixed with some amazing trance style rythms. It has symilarities to some of Era's work as well. Here are the Lyrics and translation to english, I love Gaelic as it is one of the languages spoken by my ancestors:

Gura mise tha fo èislean (How sorrowful I am
Moch sa' mhadainn is mi 'g èirigh Early in the morning I am rising)

Ò hì, shiubhalainn leat... (Ò hì, I would walk with thee...
Hì rì bhò, hò rù bhì
Hì rì bhò, hò rinn ò hò
Ailein Duinn, ò hì shiubhalainn leat Dark Allan, I'd walk with thee)

Ma 's e 'n cluasag dhut a ghaineamh (If thy pillow is the sand
Ma 's e leabaidh dhut an gheamainn If thy bed is the seaweed)

Ma 's en t-iasg do choinlean geala (If the fish are thy candles bright
Ma 's na ròin do luchd-faire If the seals are thy watchmen)

Dh'òlainn deoch ge boil le càch e (I would drink though all abhor it
Dè dh'fhuil do choim 's tu 'n Of thy heart's blood after
Dèidh do bhathadh... Thy drowning.)

However some other tracks are also worth mentioning like the title track Just Be with Kirsty Hawkshaw, she has a great voice and also sings Walking In Clouds as well as most of the other female lyrics on the album.
In any case I will be getting back to blogging more regularly as soon as the chaos at work subsides, in the meantime music will keep me sane.

Superstar

Another compilation selection to try, the theme being star'ish as I have been reading a lot of astronomy websites lately and I also love the title track by Jamelia, I must be going soft as my kids say it is hip hop! I just love the beat and think the lyrics are cool. So here we go with this week's star spangled playlist!
SUPERSTAR
20 tracks in playlist, average track length: 4:17Playlist length: 1 hour 25 minutes 49 seconds
1. Jamelia - Superstar (3:35)
2. Roxette - Stars (3:56)
3. Sugababes - Supernatural (3:37)
4. Modern Talking - TV makes the Superstar (3:41)
5. Blank and Jones - Stars shine bright (4:41)
6. B Witched - My superman (3:04)
7. David Essex - Gonna make you a star (3:40)
8. Smash Mouth - All Star (3:21)
9. t.A.T.u. - Stars (4:08)
10. Karen Zoid - Southern sky (3:48)
11. Bonnie Tyler - Total eclipse of the heart (4:23)
12. David Bowie - Space Odditty (4:51)
13. Darkwood Dub - Supernova (4:54)
14. Our Lady Peace - Starseed (4:19)
15. Guns'nRoses - Knocking on heavens door (5:36)
16. Sonique - Sky (4:24)
17. OMD - Speed of Light (4:29)
18. Ocean Lab - Sky falls down (7:53)
19. Basic Connection - Hablame luna (3:30)
20. Europe - The final countdown (3:59)
Basic Connection's Hablame Luna is a great peice as well, cool guitar work with some beautiful vocals blended into a rocking beat, techno latino, if there is such a genre... not much on the web about them though. Strange how some Stars get so egotistical and others keep their feet firmly in reality. Today's quote reminds me of something that was said by Billy Joel, "You can't go home with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You don't sleep with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You don't get hugged by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and you don't have children with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I want what everybody else wants: to love and to be loved, and to have a family. Being in love has always been the most important thing in my life."

US 'alienating' world's Muslims, yeah right!

BBC NEWS Americas US 'alienating' world's Muslims

Now why do I think the opposite?

Here is why.

We have yet to see Muslims marching in protest at the atrocities done in their name by all the extremists since mohammed (no capitals to his name because he was in my opinion a depraved person) walked this earth. Until this happens as far as I am concerned, the Muslim world is alienating the rest of the world.

Just the way I see it...

Embedded daggers

What were they thinking? To quote Dr Phill...

What was the Pentagon thinking when they embedded journalists with the troops, did they think they would have gotten a better rap than last time around in Vietnam?

The latest case where a shellshocked marine killed a wounded insurgent (read ENEMY TERRORIST please) in a moment of haste/fear is now being dragged through the media as such an atrocity.

Where are their howls of outrage when a hostage is beheaded?

Where are their howls of outrage when innocent Iraqi civillians are mown down by a TERRORIST bomb?

The perspective of the media embedded or not is tottaly skewed and the sooner a blackout of this one sided reporting is done the better.

Why am I ranting like this? Because I have been in that marine's shoes, I have smelt the smell of flesh rent by high explosive, I have had the cold sweat of fear run down my spine when counting the odd's while tracking a band of terrorists through the African bush, 10 of us and 30 of them. I was trained to eliminate the enemy then tend the wounded, while bullets are being exchanged a wounded enemy is dangerous even when they wave a flag of truce.

This is something the media do not understand, this type of enemy does not fight by any civilised rules, they know of only one thing, die and take as many with you as you can by any means possible.

Untill this is made clear to the world at large the soldier fighting for good is being stabbed in the back by his own media.

I salute all off you Band of Brothers fighting the good fight, I have been there.

Politics and gravity

They say gravity sucks... False... Politicians do... Gravity is one of the forces of nature that always works, not like politicians, I mean really? Getting paid 23 grand a month and perks for four years and then getting a lifetime pension if you do not get re-elected! No wonder all the scumsucking bottom dwellers of society are getting on the gravy train!
However in the same vein I see at least in the Land of the Brave the system seems to be working, even if the outcome may have been close the people voted more than in the nail biter of 2000.

When the politicians complain that TV turns the proceedings into a circus, it should be made clear that the circus was already there, and that TV has merely demonstrated that not all the performers are well trained. Edward R. Murrow (1908 - 1965)

Long Live Liaka

BBC ON THIS DAY 3 1957: Russians launch dog into space
This was an amazing chapter in the exploration of space but on the other hand so sad that Laika had to perish in the quest for knowledge, I believe we should honour our animal pioneers is some special way. Hopefully this little blog will be just such a tribute.

New Friends

The Man has been keeping the door open lately due to the warm weather, this has given me the chance to explore and meet new friends like Graciella the girl next door, she is great fun and we get along famously... I just wonder why The Man gets upset that I like playing there? she has this lovely accent!

I have also met Scrounger and Big Mama as well as TigerTom... briefly... wonder why they growl and hiss at me though... they may think they are big but my tail is bigger and it goes invisible.

Wacky translators and the 80's

I found this; The Dialectizer and had histerics when I ran the blog through it, I especially enjoyed the Cockney simulator. A similar traslator can also be found on 80s.com, the Vally translator. By the way the rest of the 80.com site is worth checking out as well... a trip down memory lane.
Reminds me of some great 80's songs like Martika - I Feel the Earth Move, Journey - Wheel In the Sky, Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Round (like a record). Also reminds me of Jeff Wayne & Justin Hayward's rendition of War of the Worlds. Richard Burton did the narration. Here is a snippet from Eve of the War;
"The chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one," he said.
"The chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one - but they stillcome!"
"Yes, the chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one," he said.
"The chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one - but they still come!"
Great music and I am so glad I managed to get a copy.

Small wonders

Some pictures from Golden Gate, not the normal wildlife stuff but the small wonders we often do not stop to examine.

Pictures were taken on the way back from my recent trip to our other Campus in Qwaqwa, had the Venture to myself as I was the only one that needed to do the shuttle, gave me an excellent opportunity to play the music I like while driving, had Evanescence - Fallen, 18 Classic Rock Anthems, The Punisher Soundtrack, The Awakening - Sacrificial Etchings and DJ Sammy - Heaven as musical company on the CD player, each one seemed to fit the scenery at the time it played.Driving along the road between Fouriesburg and Clarens the road makes several sweeping turns and is in excellent condition, made me wish I was on a bike instead of in a car. Chris Spedding's Motorbiking springs to mind when I travel on this stretch and this time it was playing at the very same time, it sure brings back memories of my own Kawa 750 and the open road. Just wish I could find the lyrics to pop in here... watch this space [ ]

Inside the Eagle Nebula - Genesis in action

And God said, let there be light: and there was light.
And God saw the light, that it was good: God divided the light from the darkness.

Genesis 1:3-4
When I saw this picture and read what was going on in that part of the Universe I realize that Genesis is still in action. We humans have but a tiny grasp of the workings of God and that one has to be blind in a spiritual sense not to realise that He exists.
Been listening to my gospel music today and this one from Tree63 stands out as being suitable for the image and thoughts here;
Be All, End All - Tree63
Center of attention night and day
I just hang on every word You say
With worlds revolving 'round You silently
How come You have all this time for me?

'Cos You spend all day inside my brain

I'm overcome - hard to explain
So what am I supposed to do?
I must have You

Chorus:
Be All End All
Start me finish me

You've been walking down my street again
Now everybody wants to be my friend
Beginning and the end of everything
You're the only song I want to sing

I'm absolutly in pursuit
Of something absolutly true
And all around has come undone: You're the 1*0*1

(Chorus)

Dazzle

An amazing little image. Fractal art in minature.
Now to more serious matters... after a dazzling season the Cheetahs lost the final game but not without clawing back magnificently... ah, well next year!
At least I have music to cheer me up. Here is some played today, Paul van Dyk - Tell me why, Armin van Buuren - Burned with desire, Modern Talking - You are not alone...
This song by The Stranglers seems to sum up my feelings of my favourite rugby team losing the final:
Always The Sun - The Stranglers
How many times have you woken up and prayed for the rain?
How many times have you seen the papers apportion the blame?
Who gets to say, who gets the work and gets to play?
I was always told at school, everybody should get the same
How many times have you been told, if you don't ask you don't get?
How many liars have taken your money, your mother said you shouldn'tbet?
Who has the fun, is it always the man with the gun?
Someone must have told him, if you work too hard you can sweat
There's always the sun
There's always the sun
Always, always, always the sun
How many times have the weathermen told you stories that made you laugh?
Y'know it's not unlike the politician and the leaders when they do things by half
Who gets the job, of pushing the knob
That sort of responsibility you draw straws for, if you're mad enough
There's always the sun
There's always the sun
Always, always, always the sun.

A few good men

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. Edmund Burke (1729 - 1797)
With this quote I take my hats off to our police, yes that some are corrupt is a fact but there are still a few good men in the ranks and their example outshines all the bad as far as I am concerned.
What we need for this to be reinforced is that the media should go out and get the "good news" that happens every day. I truly believe if for a month we see the good that is being done in our communities we will change the perception that Cops are Crooked.
This is my challenge to the Media of this fair land...

Way to go Jock!

Hijackers flee pitbull Jock
This is the type of headlines I love, good news instead of the usual, well worth the read while the link stays up.
As I am completing the reports of last weekends race I am listening to some of the music mentioned on yesterday's blog, Tanya Donnely... a great talent I believe and hope she keeps on making great music. Just a pity she is not that well known here. The Night You Saved My Life - Tanya Donnely - T. Donelly / D. Fisher.
In the beginning my love was fierce
One heart stopped and another started
I flashed my eyes, cracked wise and left them dry
Now I sit with my babe at my breast
I was never this good at my best
Never higher
The moon was paper white the night you saved my life
When my spirit guide left me behind
The wood was closing in, foggy was the night
The night you saved my life
When my spirit guide left me behind
I spy with my third eye
Something volatile and vital
So say goodnight, sleep tight, don't let them bite
Now I stand with the wind at my back
Every day brings a new breed of jackass
I was never good at monkey-in-the-middle
Never a fighter
The moon was paper white the night you saved my life
When my spirit guide left me behind
The wood was closing in, foggy was the night
The night you saved my life
When my spirit guide left me behind
The moon was paper white the night you saved my life
When my spirit guide left me behind.
Ok, the song has little to do with dogs but at least it has the saving life theme to it. Todays quote is exactly opposite to what I wanted but fitting in a obscure way.
"When a dog bites a man, that is not news, because it happens so often. But if a man bites a dog, that is news." John B. Bogart (1848 - 1921)

More Patience

The Man has been quite busy... hardly ever gets in before dark and up very early, hope he gets all those pics up soon.

Gimme Gotta Gimme some accidental love

I have been a tad otherwise occupied and have been lazy blogging as a result, not that the world cares much I suppose. Also summer has arrived and what with the sun setting later and it being great outside I am not getting much done keyboard wise... Yeah I have a life it seems!
Bought a compilation CD recently with some dance music on it, in view of our annual Guy Fawkes evening where we have a Bring and Braai, firworks and music. This song was one of the tracks and went down quite well last Saturday after prizegiving, I had to figure out the lyrics myself as there are none on the WWW!, a lot of refrences to the song but no lyrics. Also not any band/artist website either, so this seems to be one of those obscure but great songs:
Gimme Gotta Gimme - Rikke
Gimme gotta gimme your love tonight
Gimme gotta gimme your love
Gimme gotta gimme your love tonight
Gimme gotta gimme your love

I'm not the one to wait now baby
I wanna kiss you right away
There's been a million wasted moments
as I want to slip away
i think I'm gonna bet my chances
I think it's time to play the game
quess every night here beside me
is just another crying shame

Chorus
oh you gotta gimme gotta gimme your love tonight
Gimme it right away
I'm not the one to beg now darling
but I won't waste another day
oh you gotta gimme gotta gimme your love tonight
gimme it right away
I'm not the one to beg now darling
but I will celebrate the day

They say only fools rush in boy
but I've been waiting all the day
so come and make a little magic
and help keep the cloudy skie's away
I'll be the sweetest destination
I'll be the road to all your roads
and if you think I love you little
I mean to say I love you loads

Chorus x2

I have made up a new playlist as well for this week, quite a variation but very listenable although some groups/singers may be obscure like Trickbaby and Drop Dead Gorgeous. I call this compilation:

Earthlight

Earthlight:
Another Apod picture to be amazed by. Something else that amazes me is the smell of summer, mowed grass, rain, the scent of flowers, a virtual smorgasbord of smells... I got all that when I put my car in the garage this evening.

Today's recipe is another plonk and roast dish, I think one should call it Le poulet fumé avec les légumes rôtis or in plain english Smoked Chicken with Roasted Vegetables. (French thanks to Free Translations.Com.) Very easy to make and quite quick if one harnesses the Microwave to pre-cook the veggies.
Ingredients:
1 Smoked chicken, one could substitute this with one of those roasted chickens from your Spar/P&P/Woolies deli department.
Assorted packs of prepared veggies of your choice, I picked baby spuds/medeteranian veggie mix with sundried tomatoes/sweet potatoes/butternut/snap peas. You can mix and match as your tastebuds/hunger dictate.
1 Pack button mushrooms
1 Handfull asparagus
1 Large onion
1 Large red sweet pepper
2 Large tomatoes
2 cans tomato & onion mix, one per baking dish.
250 ml fresh cream
Herbs and spices to suit your taste, my choice was 2 tsp paprika, 2 tsp Italian herb, 1 tsp majoram, 1 tsp celery salt, 1 tbl spn Veggie sprinkle, dried garlic (one clove fresh) and 2 tsp Coriander seeds. These were all ground together in a mortar and pestle (my new kitchen toy)
Preperation:
Cut the chicken into portions and place in a baking pan/dish and grill for a few minutes, this helps cook out any excess fat...
Put all the veggie packs into the microwave and nuke for 8 minutes or untill semi cooked...
My ingredients were enough for 2 baking dishes, it may vary according to your requirements or amount of ingredients you have.
Remove chicken from grill and set oven on max, drain any fat from the chicken and divide between the baking dishes if needed.
Arrange veggies amongst chicken, slice onion and tomatoes and plonk among the rest of the veggies, cut up the asparagus and mushrooms to spread about likewise.
Spread your spice/herb mix over ingredients followed by the tomato/onion mix and then divide the cream between the dishes.
Return to oven for about 10 minutes, stir and turn bigger vegetables and bake another 10 minutes.
Set oven on Grill and grill the dish for another 10 minutes or until veggies start showing brown... Do not Incinerate!
By this time you should have finished a tossed salad to complement your Le poulet fumé avec les légumes rôtis.
This is a thumb suck recipe as it can be chopped and changed depending on ingredients available. Will serve four comfortably.
The picture and theme remind me of Tree63 and A Million Lights:
Can we hang out tonight underneath your ceiling
I could stare up at a million lights and listen to you breathing
If I fall fast asleep it's just because I feel so safe in you
It won't take much to wake me up

Could i walk out to sea way beyond these breakers
We have no place amongst the movers and the shakers
Yours is the only throne I'll ever get down on my knees before
You have the whole of me

Lover come away
Come away my lover

I heard you say you've stolen my heart with one glance of your
eyes
When I fell down you raised me up
That's gravity

Yours is the only throne I'll ever get down on my knees before
You have the whole of me

Lover come away
When I fell down you were standing there waiting for me
You picked me up, welcomed me home
That's gravity

Won't you come away
Won't you come away with me
Lover of my soul

"Ever since we crawled out of that primordial slime, that's been our unifying cry, "More light." Sunlight. Torchlight. Candlelight. Neon, incandescent lights that banish the darkness from our caves to illuminate our roads, the insides of our refrigerators. Big floods for the night games at Soldier's field. Little tiny flashlights for those books we read under the covers when we're supposed to be asleep. Light is more than watts and foot candles. Light is metaphor. Light is knowledge, light is life, light is light." Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider, Northern Exposure, Northern Lights, 1993
