Nazdarovia! thank you Incredible Connection and TGMoC!

This is the manual for my new Kodak C340... thank goodness the CD's are not in Cyrillic! Otherwise I am quite chuffed with what I got... a 5megapixel Camera with 3x optical zoom and 16meg onboard, plus a 128meg card and bag came to R1199.00! Sometimes it helps to swist arms and compare prices... just a pity we did not check the manual when we did the checklist... fortunately it is a doddle to figure out what everything does, I am not a total newbie when it comes to digital cameras...

By the way I do not know what this baby costs at Clicks nor do I care... it had no box, no price, no salesman and no manager to help me decide... so "Yo! Clicks Bossman... your Mimosa Mall store sucks better than gravity dude!" I was tempted to disable their security system when I went in search of the so called manager, the door was wide open and nobody home... Disgusted is a mild term... I wonder if their MD will ever bother to answer my voicemail I left on his mobile...

Well... enough ranting... at least Gregorian Masters of Chant - Chapter V have soothed my spirit after above episode and me forgetting my blessed Keys on the table in the flat... boltcutters are so handy...
The whole album is brilliant... as usual, but I love Lady in Black (Uriah Heep), Boulevard of Broken Dreams (Green Day) and one of the bonus tracks Missing (Everything But The Girl) the most, the last track is a fine rendition of Forever Young (Bob Dylan) as well. Now my collection is complete once more!
"Music has charms to soothe the savage breast To soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak." William Congreve (1670 - 1729), The Mourning Bride, Act 1 Scene 1

Locked out... and zooming in.

The Man arrived home later than usual... then he stood outside untill some strange man came with this strange tool... after he left the Man showed us the lock that had to be broken so we could get fed... yeah... he did it again! He keeps forgetting the keys inside!
After feeding us he took out a Flashything... arrrgh it makes so much light!

First he took a picture of Dutchess next to her heater...
Then me getting warm...
Then Amber...
I thought The Girl had taken Flashything with her to Camp... now The Man says he is mailing our pics to her... this Internetty thingy is wonderful!

We all send Lostsalove and Purrs to The Girl there in Rockbrook!

a Tribute from Chris Muir @ Day By Day
As we say in this part of Africa... Hamba gahle Nkosi... may he rest with his forefathers...
Rob's Gut Rumbles was always one of the blogs I look into each day. I will miss him and his rapier wit.
To all his loved ones I bid fond memories... and keep the blog up as a memorial.
HT to the Rottie and Da Goddess!
I think this from the Great Bard sums it up, in his own unique way Rob lived up to this...

Nick Kamen - I promised myself

I promised myself
I promised I'd wait for you
The midnight hour
I know you'll shine on through

I promised myself
I promised the world to you
I gave you flowers
You made my dreams come true

How many of us out there
Feel the need to run
and look for shelter

I promised myself
That I'd say a prayer for you
A brand new tomorrow
Where all you wish comes true

I promised myself
That I'd make it up to you
My sister and brother
Know I'm in love with you

How many of us out there
Feel the pain of losing
what was once there
God I know what people
say about her
No mistake who can live
without love

In the midnight hour
I will wait for you
I will wait for you
I will wait for you

GRavtar...

Decided it is time to put a real picture of me up on the blog sidebar...

Before! Hiding behind my Myoo's face...

After! With my bottie...

Here is the bigger picture...Yeah... that is what you think it is!

"If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?" Abraham Lincoln (1809 - 1865)

Floored Nuke

"Chubu Electric Power Co. officials investigating the shutdown have found a 53cm by 12cm blade that was broken at its base and had fallen onto the floor, said industry ministry spokesperson Kazuhiro Nakajima."
Fallen to the floor? How does that happen?
Sometimes the total lack of comprehension on the part of journalists reporting an incident astounds me!
What really happened is that the blade broke off and fell into the bottom of the turbine housing where it could have caused further damage. A world of difference between the housing and the floor I would say... I suppose this is what you get when you assign a apprentice journalist to a technical press conference...

Journalists are not stupid, just lazy to double check the story...

Journalists are not stupid... just too lazy to double check their sources and I will give some examples shortly...
I take exeption to Ms Lizette Rabe's article on several points and will discuss them in detail as time goes by and they will reinforce the following wiews I have of Journalists.

1. Journalists think because they "studied" they are infallible.
2. Journalists are not impartial observers anymore.
3. Journalists think they are Holy Cows.
4. Journalists are lazy.
5. Journalists think the public are illiterate morons.

The above views do not of course apply to all Journalists but seeing that Lizette is painting with a roller never mind a broad brush I think I can make those statements based on almost half a century of observing the journalistic decline in printed and other media...

To be expanded... be patient I am researching my sources!

In the meantime here is my dissection of the above article;

Here is Lizette's diatribe in Italics, wich I am going to disect with my own view and comments in Blue Bold and with examples if I can... not like her with no examples just vague refrences, glaring errors will be underlined...I just wonder why she had to defend her ilk so vehemently? Usually that is a sign that something was not Cosher...
A somewhat irritated hospital spokesperson last week said how "some media" reported incorrect facts about FW de Klerk's condition and his illness.
Where did the "FW has died" story come from?http://www.mweb.co.za/news/?p=sa_article&i=169735seems to be the only refrence to this...
A somewhat more irritated SAA pilot this week spoke to a news programme, purely to "rectify" all the incorrect facts "some media" perpetuated in the reporting on the alleged hijacking of a SAA plane.
Are you sure this was a SAA pilot or spokesperson? Still trying to find the exact article by the way...http://www.capeargus.co.za/index.php?fSectionId=49&fArticleId=3300793The bashing of the police in this story in the way they handled the situation using SOP in this type of situation, "The cops were manhandling" angle, give me a break... everyone was a suspect at that time and this is SOP world wide... don't people watch reality TV? Oh I forgot... TV is Fiction...http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,,2-7-1442_1953682,00.html
It sounds as if the media is just too stupid to get it right. And that our spokespeople and pilots think they have a licence to slam the media.
Yes they have when the media talks bullshit! (The Stuck on Stupid episode and personal experience springs to mind.)
Of course, each to their own. They can criticise the media as much as they want. But they should also get their facts right, and not only do the easy thing which is to play the "blame the media game". We're not stupid, you know.
Why do they have to when the media does not even get it right, if it was done right from the start the critics would have to keep their yaps closed?
The fact is, "some media" who reported certain facts about FW's condition got those facts from the family spokesperson. They did not thumbsuck the facts - the media would not do that. They would not jeopardise their own credibility.
But they did not verify the facts before publishing it as gospel did they? oh by the way what was that about Dan Rather and tumbsucking?
Also, the "untruths" that were reported after the alleged hijacking could all be traced to sources. Once again, the media did not thumbsuck. They got the information from a variety of sources. And if those sources have a different version to that of others, then it's their version, and not a question of the media being so pathetic as to get it all wrong.
What "untruths"? Why were thes facts not cross checked before publishing?
Please, give us more credit than that.
Well... you guys keep stepping in it and publishing it as gospel!

Trained professionals
Mainstream media have trained professionals, some with more, some with less experience. And as in any other profession, mistakes happen. Famously, doctors bury their mistakes; yet journalists display theirs on their front pages, for all the world to see.

The HASTY publishing of half baked stories just for a scoop has disproved this time and time again, in most professions one has to cross check and double check before taking your work upstairs.
That's of course also why we need to be even more professional in everything we do. Do our damnedest to get it right. But if a spokesperson give us information, or eyewitnesses give their version of what they experienced, don't blame the media if it is not exactly what happened according to your facts, or your version of events.
Once again we get to that irritating need to DOUBLE CHECK, it is "gives us information" not "give us"... was your proofreader on leave! Some professional!
No media would willingly publish untruths. Credibility is, ultimately, the only honour left. And no media institution will sacrifice that. Otherwise you may just as well close your doors.
Biased arab media et al, I really do not have space or time to even go there! Please use Google... (sarcasm intended)
If journalism is the "first rough draft of history", of course we need to get it right. Rather help the media in our quest to reflect, and represent, our world as it is happening every day, than try and aim cheap blows at us because we're an easy target.
Well... if they get it Right first time would there be cheap shots?
Just think about it: every day your newspaper is created all over again - as is your news bulletin on the hour, and in terms of the new media, it's reflected on your screen almost as it is happening.
And in the rush to publish the next scoop facts get ignored time and time again?
Imagine the effort it takes to get the facts represented in a cohesive, contextual, chronological way.

Been doing a BRILLIANT job of that lately...
Unlike that specific brand of baked beans that's the same can of baked beans every time you open it, a news brand has to be recreated from scratch every single round of its frequency.
Recreated? I distrust the word "recreated" here? I thougt the idea was to portray events that have happened not recreate them, that sounds so Hollywood.
As an editor said in a different context: not a candy bar and not a bar of soap, but a product. And one that has to be put together by verifying and collecting information, putting it through the various production processes according to the medium, and presenting it eventually to you, the news consumer.
Been doing a BRILLIANT job of that lately once again... and since when is a bar of soap or candy not a product? Also to call the public a cusumer when it comes to news is way out of context... news is not a consumer item but since the Media has made it one it becomes subject to the demands of a consumer product... what sells the product? Sensation and Speculation... need I say more? Dont forget the advertising revenue either from selling a scoop...
And, yes, we don't want praise for the job we do and the job we love. But please don't make us out for ignoramuses."
Oh yeah... what do you do it for then, the Moolah? and by the way... Joe Public is not an inoramus either... Just do your job properly and we will get along fine and maybe, just maybe start believing what is put out in the media again...I know this is just a commentary collum posted by a Journalist Lecturer but once again proving that they are Lazy... I would at least have posted "links" to the "alledged" articles she is so irritated with... I see a gaping wound in the foot here...

This may be expanded if any further FACTS surface.

There is Gold in them thar oilfields

Thomas Gold died this day in 2004 and no one seems to have taken his ideas further.
Further research into Abiogenic petroleum origin may just prove him and others right.
To me it makes sense when time after time hydrocarbons are discovered in space on other bodies in the solar system as well as in space dust. I mean we know more about the surface of the moon than our seas and lithosphere...

Celebs to Join Cindy Sheehan in Hunger Strike "In her latest statement, Sheehan wrote that celebrities like singer Willie Nelson, actor Danny Glover and comedian Dick Gregory will show their support for her by joining in a one-day fast. She urged her supporters to do the same."

Now I can add them to my list of "Not to be supported moonbat artists" as well, as to the farce errr fast... one day! Just one freaking day? This moonbat has no idea what fasting means, just like the jihadis she supports... I mean really what is so difficult to refrain from eating anything by day but it is ok to eat after the sun has set! Freaking idiots... Now doing it for 40 days and nights... that is a fast... maybe she should read Matthew 4.2 and see what a fast for the proper reason can achive...
Although we did have 3 exeptions to the rule in Gitmo... tough... wrong reason and wrong deity dudes... shoulda read that verse from the Right Book.

Is Afrikaans dead?

Is Afrikaans dead? "Cape Town - A communication strategist from Johannesburg has angered Afrikaans-speakers by saying that the language should be taken off the ventilator and it should not be allowed to be kept on life support."

What an idiot! Ask any shopkeeper in Namibia what the people speak?
In any case I do not know what he means by "life support", the language is doing fine and not being supported by Goverment money if that is what he means. No need to as far as I can see/hear as well.

We may have 11 languages in this country but the lingua franca is afrikaans as it is in Namibia... must be some reason for that? Just another example of a myopic journalist as I can see... more on that subject later. What I can surmise is that Clive is a Finance journalist guru type person... and yes if you wanna do business in the big leagues in Seffrika it is done in English, period! Usually in an Afrikaans accent!

Who did the deed on Rashid...

This case is being fanned out of all proportion by the lawyer... Typical of how they carry on when "one of their own" has been nailed... Just look how the lawyers are howling in Britain and Canada, I almost forgot that is SOP for jihadis... What I am wondering is who the hell is footing the bill for all these legal shenannigans?
Personally I am glad this jihadist is no longer in my country and hopefully behind bars... where he belongs...

I will be posting a more lenghty summary on this matter anon... just need do connect some dots...

Today... was a good day.

Today was a good day... my daughter L sent me an e-mail for my birthday, my son M gave me a cool Pepper Grinder with LED light... I must think of an excuse to use it soon.
According to Wikipedia a lot happened today in history as well, with this being the coolest as it happened Today... Today was Trinity Sunday! I may not be a Bible thumper but I do know that without God I am nothing and wihout Jesus I am not saved and without the Holy Spirit I cannot survive...
Otherwise it was just a relaxing day... ended up at my Dad's place for a fine supper of soup and recalling memories... A good day.

Hasta la pasta

Here is something I missed...
Hasta la pasta
Ok, I am cheating a bit, this is just my way of cooking spaghetti.
Take your favourite pasta pot, any large pot that holds at least 4 litres is fine, I have a cool one that has a built in strainer.
Fill with warm water (speeds up things) and add 2 herb and garlic stock cubes (instead of salt) and get it boiling, add a dash of olive oil and then the pasta as soon as the water is boiling vigourously. Stir a few times to prevent pasta sticking and cook for around 20 minutes until al dente.
Serve with your favourite dish like my meatballs or bolognaise.

Diesel... der Vorsprung durch Technik

Lately I have been following the development of using Diesel engines in motorcycles, something that always puzzled me as to why there was a dearth of these creatures.
The problem has been a shortage of technology being applied in this field as well as no company willing to stake their life on the venture.
However I must say this is changing rapidly...
Over on
The Kneeslider you can go and see what is being done. One company I want to single out is Neander Motor in Germany... hence the clone of Audi's motto, who are also leaders in the field of auto diesel power in my opinion.
Neander Motor's double crankshaft ohc turbo charges 1.4 Litre bike engine is a work of art as the pictures show, typical Teutonic excellence...

The motorcycle this brute is going to power is a semi chopper style cruiser. Not my favourite but very impressive to say the least. Another contender is the ThunderStar 1200 from Holland as per this Gizmag article, in Superbike format. The Neander would also do well in the Quad field as it is suited for this type of frame.
What I would like is the Neander single cylinder motor in a CS650 frame,That would be cool! Pity the CS has been dropped, I loved the belt drive... Maybe I should drop BMW and Neander a note...

Who needs Red Bull!

I always smile when I see a Red Bull advert but seems like this personal wing story is actually old news!

The SkyRay was first flown in 2002 already but the proposed use for Special Forces by ESG seems to be a latter idea. I love the header on their site "ESG gives you wings – the parachute system for special operations".
In any case I think this is amazing use of current technology in composite materials.
I wonder if we will ever see a Red Bull air race using these?

A View from the Heart of a Wooded Mountain

Transylvania County Court House, probaly one of the prettiest I have seen. Situated in Brevard, the town where she is Camp Councellor, they have a Blog so I can see how things are going over there in the Blue Ridge Mountains, home of forestry in the USA. It is a town with a rich history and magnificent scenery.

"Nestled in the Southern Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina, lies beautiful Transylvania County. Literally meaning "across the woods", there is no more appropriate name for this area as the visitor is instantly awed by the intense foliage that dominates the County."

I hope she enjoys the time in this wonderful part of America. We await her return in September to hear of her amazing adventure, hopefully she will start sending some photos she promised to take with her digital over there.

I think the following quote sums up what I wish for her as she follows one of her dreams...

"This life is yours. Take the power to choose what you want to do and do it well. Take the power to love what you want in life and love it honestly. Take the power to walk in the forest and be a part of nature. Take the power to control your own life. No one else can do it for you. Take the power to make your life happy." Susan Polis Schutz

Wow so many trees!

This is what my humminbean sister L or The Girl is doing over in North Carolina at the summercamp, she is a Camp Counselor. Gymnastic instruction being one of her specialities! Duchess is sooooo proud of her over there in America but still hopes that time will fly so she will be back soon....

This is where the kids and counselors stay at camp... I have never seen so many trees... I just know of three here were I live!

This is one of the trees that we have near the flat, not nearly as big as in America! Those funny birds are Hadedas looking for goggos in the long grass... when they are out we stay inside, especially Amber... she is very sacred of these loud birds.

"A cat can climb down from a tree without the assistance of the fire department or any other agency. The proof is that no one has ever seen a cat skeleton in a tree."

Sometimes one has to...

come to the assistance to people you disagree with. I find it utterly reprehensible that these muslims and their mouthpeices get away with threats like this.
I may disagree with the way Debbie does business but that is her right and my right as well, to threaten physical violence like this is out of the question though! These people should be arrested as far as I am concerned.
Satirical comments and making fun never do harm but usually make people think and help to make a point.
Another blogger being threatened is Charles at LGF... he regularly says it as it is regarding the threat from muslim domination.
So to all those being threatened... I am on your side!

Lola Elzein: Muslim Arab American PAC Official Threatening Debbie Schlussel's Life.
I dont think she would be recognisable if she was in a true muslim country nor would she be able to say what she did... Islamofacists like their women covered and with their piehole shut! Maybe she should be thankfull that she can say what she likes and wear what she likes exactly because there is FREEDOM in America... and just maybe people making death threats should be reminded by a beriod of less freedom... Incarceration seems to be apt in this case.

Lordi! where do they come up with the name?

They only come out at night I enjoy most metal music... usually in small doses... Not having heard any music from Lordi yet I cannot comment on their music but their marketing sure is on track for this genre... The funny part is that as their lead says... "without the costumes no one would listen to us" reminds me of other marketing strategies as well...
Marketing stratagies aside, congratulations on winning Eurovision2006 Lordi... looking forward to hearing something from them soon here in Seffrika then I can say if I would listen to them sans masks...
