Time to buy swords

I found this over at Samizdata quote of the day and he calls it the Quote of the millennium... let me explain;
This is the quote by Jesus from Luke 22:36 NIV...
He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one".
Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take [it], and likewise [his] scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. KJV
Why did He say this? When one looks at this verse it actually sems like He was proposing violence. However one has to look at the context and to me the actual meaning is that somtimes Christians need to be prepared to defend themselves from violence with violent means, especially when the persons do not want to hear the message of peace that He brought to the world.
Today we live in such times... many have heard the Word but resist it violently, no one can tell me that many of islam's top leaders and teachers have not heard what Jesus stands for yet they reject the stone... They are the reason Christians are allowed to go and buy a sword...
There are other interpretations but as I apply Occam's razor this is the most sensible meaning to me. Yes, verse 37 explains how He must be regarded as a transgressor, however having a sword (actually a dagger as I have found out) was not an offence but deemed to be essential to one's survival in those times.
He did not want his followers to go about beheading those that did not want to convert but conversely He did not want his followers to let evildoers have free reign over his followers... when we see evil being perpetrated He does not want us to be spectators but to use the sword to fight the evildoer... all the time saying a prayer of course...

Pondering the question...

was this a "Strafing Run" by ET's? You be the judge...
I would rather use Occam's Razor by comparing this to what we have seen in recent history, that gives me one answer and that is asteroids/comets/other bits of space rock still floating around the sun that happen to get torn up and come down in a line like what we saw happening on Jupiter a few years ago with the Shoemaker-Levy comet demise...
My question would also be... Where are the remains of the "target"?
That would be the kicker...

8 and counting

This year has been a very quite year in the Atlantic as far as Hurricanes go, Ernesto was the only one to make serious land fall on the North American continent, the others were all more of a Tropical storm class and all seem to have veered north up the central Atlantic so far. If this is what Global Warming is going to do then stoke the fires!

Tigers don't cry

Martin van Straaten, #2 of the 3 plane Sasol Tigers aerobatic team was killed today when his L29 Delfin crashed off Milnerton, no one is sure why it happened. We all mourn the loss of a brilliant aviator. This is second fatal accident with this team over the period since they first got together to form the team in 2002.

Surf's Up!

Yay... we did it and showed a finger to that
Great White that has been prowling that part of the sea as well.

"Organisers say that 73 surfers managed to stay upright for five seconds, beating the previous best of 44."
Since this was a surfing thing done in Africa one song sprang out like a Shark breaching!
By the Beach Boys from the 70's...

Surfin' Safari

Let's go surfin' now
Everybody's learning how
Come on and safari with me
(Come on and safari with...)

Early in the morning we'll be startin out
Some honeys will be comin' along
We're loadin' up my woody
with the boards inside
and heading out singing our song

Come on (surf route) baby wait and see (surfin' safari)
Yes I'm gonna (surf route) take you surfin' (surfin' safari) with me
Come along (surf route) baby wait and see (surfin' safari)
Yes I'm gonna (surf route) take you surfin' (surfin' safari) with me

Let's go surfin' now
Everybody's learning how
Come on and safari with me
(Come on and safari with...)

At Huntington and Malibu
They're shooting the pier
At Rincon they're walking the nose
We're going on safari to the islands this year
So if you're coming get ready to go

Come on (surf route) baby wait and see (surfin' safari)
Yes I'm gonna (surf route) take you surfin' (surfin' safari) with me
Come along (surf route) baby wait and see (surfin' safari)
Yes I'm gonna (surf route) take you surfin' (surfin' safari) with me

Let's go surfin' now
Everybody's learning how
Come on and safari with me
(Come on and safari with...)

They’re anglin’ in Laguna in Cerro Azul
They’re kicking out in Dohini too
I tell you surfin’s mighty wild
It’s getting bigger every day
From Hawaii to the shores of Peru

Come on (surf route) baby wait and see (surfin' safari)
Yes I'm gonna (surf route) take you surfin' (surfin' safari) with me
Come along (surf route) baby wait and see (surfin' safari)
Yes I'm gonna (surf route) take you surfin' (surfin' safari) with me

Let's go surfin' now
Everybody's learning how
Come on and safari with me
(Come on and safari with...)

With me
(Surfin' Safari)
Yeah me
(Surfin' Safari)
With me
(Surfin' Safari)
Yeah me
(Surfin' Safari)
With me

That brings back memories...

Absinthe & Cookies on a birthday

Roberta was in a quandary when writing "Invitations to Cross Rivers In New Shoes".
The way I see it in my crude manly way is that you will only get one thing asked when you get to the Pearly Gates;
"Did you love one another as I love you?" not were you Protestant or Catholic...
Jesus invented KISS when he told us to have faith like a child, it is so simple that we cannot grasp that is all He requires. We try and find other reasons in Theology, we invent reasons to rend the Body of Christ by adhering to different denominations, it is all vanity... all He asked is that we believe that He died for our sins and that we love one another... plain and simple.

Where and how you worship is an earthly matter and should not be dwelled upon too deeply as far as I am concerned, as long as the preacher teaches the Truth, applies KISS and you feel welcome to attend then that should be all that matters.
Oh... they must serve tea and cake or cookies after the service! Not doing so is a mortal sin...
In any case I enjoy my visits to her blog, still have to try that Absinthe though... personally I am a Rum afficianado... but that is just me...

Speaking of cake... my son is celebrating 22 years on the blue dot, all I can say is no man could have a finer son!
Sometimes a diamond falls from the tree... Love you Ouboet!

Pope inspired...

With the current wave of anguish sweeping the islamic sphere of the world regarding the Papal speech that has been taken out of context I have become inspired to pen a ditty to remind us all we should remember who they really worship and what it is all about...

Rage against the moon.

Time to stand, time to rise...
rise up and rage against the moon.
Time to defy the tyrant
time to identify the target
time to define a meaning
time to speak the truth!

Time to stand, time to rise...
rise up and rage against the moon.
god of wrath
god of hate
god of intolerance
god of the moon!

Time to stand, time to rise...
rise up and rage against the moon.
We will not submit
we will not be complacent
we will not be silent
we will not fear the truth!

Time to stand, time to rise...
rise up and rage against the moon.
Will you hear the truth
will you see the danger
will you understand the evil
will you stand up!

Time to stand, time to rise...
rise up and rage against the moon.

When a group of people who profess to be followers of a religion of peace get into a rage by the Pope's speech then one must wonder what they understand of the meaning of peace, I read it as well and shake my head and wonder why they are so upset...

RIP Oriana Fallaci

This was a lady who was not afraid to speak the truth about the danger of islamic expansionism. All the links mentioned at Hyscience are well worth reading as well as her works. Oriana will not be forgotten...
