Lost without...

Wow will have to do this one on notepad untill the net comes up again... lost without the Internet... Saw Chucky again and the kittens are huge... 3 toms and one queen, will be taking pics tomorrow and posting... and I have picked one... soft hearted sod that I am... Picked a name as well, Mu, pronounced "myoo", the greek letter and maths function sign... So Sunday Myoo is coming to live with me..
Listening to my music I hear this one from Delta Goodrem, a brave young lady that has had to deal with the big C early on in her life and it shows in her lyrics as well.

Lost without you - Delta Goodrem
I know I can be a little stubborn sometimes

A little righteous and too proud I just want to find a way to compromise
Cos I believe that we can work things out

I thought I had all the answers never giving in
But baby since you’ve gone I admit that I was wrong

All I know is I’m lost without you I’m not gonna lie
How my going to be strong without you I need you by my side
If we ever say we’ll never be together and we ended with goodbye don’t know what I’d do
...I’m Lost without you
I keep trying to find my way but all I know is I’m lost without you
I keep trying to face the day I’m lost without you

How my ever gonna get rid of these blues
Baby I’m so lonely all the time
Everywhere I go I get so confused
You’re the only thing that’s on my mind

Oh my bed's so cold at night and I miss you more each day
Only you can make it right no I’m not too proud to say

All I know is I’m lost without you I’m not gonna lie
How my going to be strong without you I need you by my side
If we ever say we’ll never be together and we ended with goodbye don’t know what I’d do
...i’m Lost without you

I keep trying to find my way but all I know is I’m lost without you
I keep trying to face the day I’m lost without you

If I could only hold you now and make the pain just go away
Can’t stop the tears from running down my face Oh

All I know is I’m lost without you I’m not gonna lie
How my going to be strong without you I need you by my side
If we ever say we’ll never be together and we ended with goodbye don’t know what I’d do
...i’m Lost without you

I keep trying to find my way but all I know is I’m lost without you
I keep trying to face the day I’m lost without you.

Nature's wonders and flowers on the wall...

Kiepersol tree Cancerbush
Some pics I took a month ago at the local botanical gardens, the Kiepersol or Cabbage tree is an amazing plant and characteristic of our Free State Koppies (hills), the Cancerbush was supposed to cure certain cancers in the time of the Groot Trek, today it is being investigated for medicinal properties. Sometimes names given by the older generation are appropriate.
Flowers On The Wall - Statler Brothers
I keep hearing you're concerned about my happiness
But all that thought you're giving me is conscience, I guess
If I were walking in your shoes I wouldn't worry none
While you and your friends are worrying 'bout me, I'm having lots of fun

Counting flowers on the wall
That don't bother me at all
Playing solitaire till dawn with a deck of 51
Smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo
So don't tell me I've nothing to do

Last night I dressed in tails pretended I was on the town
As long as I can dream it's hard to slow this swinger down
So please don't give a thought to me I'm really doing fine
You can always find me here and having quite a time

Counting flowers on the wall
That don't bother me at all
Playing solitaire till dawn with a deck of 51
Smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo
So don't tell me I've nothing to do

It's good to see you, I must go, I know I look a fright
Anyway my eyes are not accustomed to this light
And my shoes are not accustomed to this hard concrete
So I must go back to my room and make my day complete

Counting flowers on the wall
That don't bother me at all
Playing solitaire till dawn with a deck of 51
Smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo
So don't tell me I've nothing to do

Listening to the song and some others on my PC and what with a conversation I had earlier today I came up with this short one...
Wednesday Blues in Dancing Shoes - Robert Le Noury
Jip, that's me tonight, melancholy and blue
wondering what you are going to do
anticipating a meltdown
expecting a fall
I'll be there when you call,
I'm always there when you call...
Ah well, such are the vagaries of the Universe.

Missed! SN 2004dj Supernova

The closest and brightest supernova in over a decade was recorded just over a month ago in the outskirts of nearby galaxy NGC 2403... and I missed this one! It sure takes one's breath away.
SN 2004dj in all its glory...
2004dj NGC 2403 2004 07 31 07 37.3 36 160E 10N 11.2 IAUC 8377 07 37 17.02 35 57.8 IAUC 8377 II-P Itagaki

Mmmm, almost the time of my supernova experience! There must be some significance in this? Just got some more music sorted out as well, should have my full collection back onboard the pc in a few weeks...

As this is related I have just been listening to Jessica Simpson and her version of Take my Breath Away, the Berlin song from the movie Top Gun, another song with a similar title was done by Surreal - You take my breath away and here are the lyrics;

Take My Breath Away - Sureal
You take my breath away...

You take my breath away...
You take my breath awaaaay...

You take my breath away
Don't leave me out this way

What more can I say...
You take my breath away...(repeat)

You left me in this way
There's nothing left to say
Nothing left to say...

Nothing to say
Cause you
Take my breath
Awaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy....

Going to get to bed early again as it is still chilly... best place to be when the night is cold. Now for probably the funniest space/breath related quote I have ever come across... bear in mind this man said he invented the Internet as well... I cannot believe he was a vice president, and they say Bush is dumb! God help America if Kerry is anywhere near as cloddish...
"Mars is essentially in the same orbit... Mars is somewhat the same distance from the Sun, which is very important. We have seen pictures where there are canals, we believe, and water. Blue monday

Cold weather and watching Cold Case EPISODE 22 "THE PLAN" music played was Bush Machine Head, Travis Writing To Reach You, Peg Long Way Down, Limp Bizkit Save Me Before I Drown, Staind Outside, Papa Roach Last Resort, Cursive Gentleman Caller, Aimee Man Wise Up all great music.
Blue monday because it is soooo cold! Here we are in spring and major blizzards in northern Natal! I am going to curl up in bed with a book. The promised recipes will be tripled next week... promise!

Waking wounded

Woke up at 10 today, had to go and unlock the track gate... I dont think I will forget last night/this morning easily... how many Submarines did I have, and where did I put the keys... waking wounded is the best description. Just glad I survived! But we had a lot of fun all the same and it was great to be out after a few weeks of stress. We sure got the band doing their thing as well, Paint It Black will never be the same again after doing that crazy dance with D, we had all the folk checking out the moves!
Not much on TV tonight and I want to get some sleep in to catch up with what I lost this weekend. Talking of sleep... here are the lyrics for the day...
TALKING IN YOUR SLEEP - The Romantics
When you close your eyes and go to sleep
And it's down to the sound of a heartbeat
I can hear the things that you're dreaming about
When you open up your heart and the truth comes out

You tell me that yo want me
You tell me that you need me
You tell me that you love me
And I know that I'm right
Cuz I hear it in the night

I hear the secrets that you keep
When you're talking in your sleep

When I hold you in my arms at night
Don't you know you're
Sleeping in the spotlight
And all of your dreams
That you keep inside
You're tellin me the secrets
That you just can't hide

When you close your eyes
And you fall asleep
Everything about you is a mystery
Now let me go and turn around three times myself...

"A boy can learn a lot from a dog: obedience, loyalty, and the importance of turning around three times before lying down." Robert Benchley (1889 - 1945)

Rock and Roll

Today was a blast, the Honeysucker worked like a charm... the track was beautifully wet and with the tractor and watertruck we were able to keep down the dust... The races were great as well, just a pity we had riders that broke collar bones due to falls... hope that the word goes out that our track is awesome, the Vets and Masters all agreed it has been quite an improvement... The event went off on time and we were able to keep up a reasonable pace between heats and finished on time... one more notch on my COC belt.
All for now... Zero Two Bravo is calling... the guys have invited us for an afterparty... hope I can catch up on some sleep tomorrow. So I am off for some Rock and Roll... these lyrics suit my mood tonight... it's partytime!
We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight - Emma Bunton
Ooh, uh-huh, yeah

Something 'bout your friends are always there for you
Help you with your bedtime and they'll see you through
Being with a man is never quite the same
Cos we just have some fun and really play the game

I don't know where we'll go
But I know we're gonna start the show

Dancing on the town tonight
Nothing can stop us
You can see it in her eyes
That we're not gonna sleep tonight
We're gonna get down tonight
See if we can make you blush
We can be mysterious
And we're not gonna sleep tonight

Tonight, we're not gonna sleep, yeah

We will find the time to party all night long
Now that we're together we just can't go wrong
Dancing in the street and making lots of noise
People wanna join us, push and leave the boys

There's no way, it's just the girls
For tonight, we're in our own world

Dancing on the town tonight
Nothing can stop us
You can see it in her eyes
That we're not gonna sleep tonight
We're gonna get down tonight
See if we can make you blush
We can be mysterious
And we're not gonna sleep tonight

(We're not gonna sleep)
(We're not gonna sleep tonight)
Tonight
(We're not gonna sleep tonight)
(Yeah-hey)
(We're not gonna sleep)

Dancing on the town tonight
You can see it in her eyes
That we're not gonna sleep tonight
We're gonna get down tonight
We can be mysterious
And we're not gonna sleep (yeah)

Dancing on the town tonight
Nothing can stop us (can stop us)
You can see it in her eyes
That we're not gonna sleep tonight (woo!)
We're gonna get down tonight (gonna get down tonight)
See if we can make you blush (see if we can make ya blush)
We can be mysterious
And we're not gonna sleep tonight

We're not gonna sleep tonight
(We're not gonna sleep tonight)
We're not gonna sleep
We're not gonna sleep tonight (tonight)
(We're not gonna sleep tonight)
We're not gonna sleep tonight

Desperate times call for desperate measures...

This is a short one, still got a lot of things to do for tomorrows race... our water truck absconded and after a heck of lot of phoning we have got a Honeysucker to water the track... hope it works out, tomorrow will tell...
In the meantime music and coffee will have to keep me going while I do another all nighter.

Winter bites back!

GLAZED: Iced-over cherries hang on a tree in Ceres in the Western Cape after a cold spell. Die Burger
So, day two of spring and we have snow in the Cape and chilly winds... typical SA weather, reminds me of new years day 2001, we had a warm morning, then a thunderstorm, then a cold front moved over the country and by evening we were down to winter woolies... 4 seasons in one day it was...
Tonight I met Cameo... the cutest Persian kitten I have ever seen... such a friendly li'l one... but if you know his owner it is no wonder, thanks Shaz, quite an interesting evening and a lot to mull over.
Wondering what lyrics would suit the theme I remembered this rather unknown song by Dido Armstrong...
Christmas Day - Dido.
A young gentleman came riding past,
On a snow blue winters day,
He asked to drink by our fire
And I was pleased to let him stay,

He drank there quietly for a while,
And then he turned and said to me,

Your eyes are green,
Like summer grass,
Your lips are red,
Like a fresh cut rose,
Your hair is soft,
Like an Irish stream,
And your voice,
Is filled with sweet beauty

And the last words I heard him say

Were I shall return,
For you,
My love,
On Christmas Day

And the night will come,
But I won't sleep,
As I watch the stars that lead him,
I cannot place where he is,
But still my heart goes with him,
I'm saving all my Sunday clothes
For the day that I'll be leaving,
Father knows,
My sister knows,
And my friends,
They're happy for me,
And the priest he says,
You should thank God,
For the blessing,
Of such beauty

And the last words
I heard him say,

Were I shall return,
For you,
My love,
On Christmas Day
I shall return,
For you,
My love,
On Christmas Day

(On Christmas Day)
(I shall return for you my love)

And the last words
I heard him say
Were the last words
I everHeard him say

I shall return,
For you,
My love
On Christmas Day
I swear,
I will return,
On Christmas Day,
And yes,
I shall return,
On Christmas Day,
I shall return,
For you,
On Christmas Day
My love,
I will return,
On Christmas Day
I shall return,
My love
On Christmas Day

On Christmas Day.
I often listen to this song and read a deeper meaning, I may be wrong but I sense that Dido is singing of Jesus, one day returning for His Bride... Strange how this song makes me think of this but this is the picture I get in my mind every time I hear it. Must be the tone of her voice as well as she sings it.
"What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset." Crowfoot's last words (1890) - Blackfoot warrior and orator

Spring has sprung

Spring has sprung. We're free at last, people. Free at last. Thank you mother nature, we're free. Time to toss open that metaphysical window and check out that psychic landscape. See lots of possibilities budding out there. Time to hoe those rows, feed that seed. Pretty soon you get a garden. Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess, Northern Exposure, A Wing and a Prayer, 1994
2 Quotes for today... read the blog to get to the second one! Spring, a new beginning, a new season, a time of year I enjoy a lot, I really think that we are blessed to live in this great country. Our seasons are truly magnificent although I do sometimes wish it would snow more in winter!

Some Geraniums from my Dad's garden to celebrate Spring Day with!
Been watching "Still Breathing" tonight, I really enjoyed it, so diffrent to the usual, and soooo romantic... Makes me think of waay back when and this is the song.
THE RAIN THE PARK AND OTHER THINGS - The Cowsills
I saw her sitting in the rain,
raindrops falling on her.
She didn't seem to care.

She sat there and smiled at me.
And I knew (I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew)
she could make me happy (happy, happy).
Flowers in her hair, flowers everywhere.

I love the flower girl, oh, I don't know just why.
She simply caught my eye.
I love the flower girl, she seemed so sweet and kind.
She crept into my mind.

Suddenly the sun broke through (see the sun).
I turned around she was gone (where did she go).
And all I had left was one little flower from her hair.

But I knew (I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew)
she had made me happy (happy, happy).
Flowers in her hair, flowers everywhere.

Now off to bed and day two of spring 2004...

Jeffersoned

Minor disaster... our COC has to attend a comission meeting... now we have to bump everyone op one scale... Should be ok as we are all in unison to have a great regional... Off for an early night as I have 3 days leave and lots to do. This song from Roxette resembles somewhat what has happened to our planning...
Jefferson - Roxette
Jefferson was always out of luck
I remember when we both grew up
Jefferson got hit by a westbound truck
I guess that didn't make him look like a million bucks
That night when Sally really stole the show
And every boy was captured diggin' for gold
Poor old Jefferson was left in the snow

I'm gonna pray for Jefferson
Pray for Jefferson's soul
I'm gonna pray for Jefferson
Pray for Jefferson's soul

Jefferson is always on my mind
When him and me were runnin' out of time
Jefferson was sure enough left be behind
The cops came in and took him by surprise
That night when Sally really showed her game
The neighbourhood would never be the same
Poor old Jefferson got the blame

Ooooh
I'm gonna pray for Jefferson
Pray for Jefferson's soul
I'm gonna pray for Jefferson
Pray for Jefferson's soul
I'm gonna pray for Jefferson
Pray for Jefferson's soul
Yeah
I'm gonna pray for Jefferson
Pray for Jefferson's soul
I do believe he didn't do wrong
I say a prayer for someone I care for

I do believe he didn't do wrong
I say a prayer for someone I care for

That night where Sally really gave it all
And made us small boys look quite tall
Poor old Jefferson left the ball

Yeah
I'm gonna pray for Jefferson
Pray for Jefferson's soul
I'm gonna pray for Jefferson
Pray for Jefferson's soul
I'm gonna pray for Jefferson
Pray for Jefferson's soul
I'm gonna pray for Jefferson
Pray for Jefferson's soul
